95 4runnner ticking, nocking?

I have a 95 4runner, I got it about a month ago. When it's idling and when I am pushing on the throttle it ticks in the motor. I was told it's a bent rod, possibly in the third cilinder. I have no clue what it is. Also it is awful about shifting sometimes it won't shift at all. It's a 4wd automatic. Any suggestions to the shifting and how to fix the ticking?

Sounds like a bent rod for the ticking. It's always better if you could post up a video so we can hear the sound. Usually with a ticking from the engine, it's a bent rod. I really nothing on the shifting.

The 3vze is a very ticky engine. The injectors are loud. Is it a higher pitch tick as opposed to a knock? Hows the tranny fluid look and smell?
Also, this is the 3rd gen forum, you might wanna try the 2nd gen forum as your truck is a 2nd gen.
