'95 knock sensor? truth or myth?

I have a 1995 4WD 4runner with just over 200,000 on it. Recently in the middle of driving i lost a lot of power and it began riding very jerky and with a kind ok knocking almost asthmatic sound to it. I ran the code which came back as the knock sensor. Changing it out will be an absolute b#*%$ and the sensor itself is gonna run about $127; so i was wondering if anybody had any advice on the procedure or whether or not this is actually the source of my problem. PLEASE HELP!!

Try changing out the plugs/wires. Honestly it fixed my code 52 knock sensor CEL. Nothing wrong now. Plus if it still knocks, you've only spent about 30 bucks.

Good luck trying to find any more information on this forum...I tried for months and you either get the same basic answer over and over or the thread just gets ignored.

You're about as useless as it gets here. We can only help you as much as you're willing to help yourself. Anytime we try and help someone on this forum we do as much as we can with the information given. If you cannot do basic troubleshooting yourself to give us detailed information on what the problem is then we can only do so much to guide you in the right direction.

Sorry to upset you man, just trying to save this guy some time on an issue that has been addressed ad nauseum in several threads. I wish someone would have told me to try changing the wires first rather than attempt to perform a difficult job as the Knock Sensor wire entails. All of the threads that cover this explain that it is a tough, long job...but none address whether it might be caused by something else.

Hope you don't think my suggestion is still useless...if this helps this guy, then it's saved him some unncecessary stress, time and money...if not...then he's upgraded some things and only spent a small amount of money/time.

Blame it on age, and experience.. and I changed it once I realized he wasn't asking "why" but "how"..

The why is very important.. but, not needed now.
