97 3RZ 5SPD 35's DD

East Coast Gear Supply.. They'll build you a diff and still warranty it with the 35's. Our front diff's are a PITA to build. Still looking forward to the 35's btw.

Thanks for the info, may end up going this route for the front. Building the rear V6 right now. You're runner is badass btw!

Backup camera options are pretty limited on these 3rd gens. Ended up doing something temporary for now. Descent camera for $17.




 
315/75/16's ordered for $904 to my door...thanks ebay. Also picked up a 4crawler 2" body lift. Should be a little bigger within two weeks.
 
4.88 zip rear 3rd will be done in 2 weeks. Open front 3rd ordered from ECGS. Surprisingly the 3rz will hold 5th pretty well even up a slight grade, and not as bad as I expected around town.

Will be building some simple box tube sliders in the near future. Bumper on for now, but debating building a simple plate bumper like Addicted's new one.

Thanks! You'll be happy with the power of the 3rz. Made a huge difference w/ my first gen over the 22re, especially on the trail. Let me know if you have any questions for your swap (although I know there is a ton of info out there) and good luck!

I have way more questions than anyone has time to answer :). Did you say you ran the LCE header on your first gen? Did you have to modify it for being too long? Where did you cross over?

And what did you end up deciding for gear ratio to go with those 35s? I have 5.29 and 33s now, thinking about 4.88s and 35s.

LCE header on the first gen. Fit with about half an inch to spare with stock 87 frame and did not have to modify it. Had the header fitted when motor mounts were built to make sure they would fit. The rig is down in Cali until the end of the year, so this is the best picture I have showing the clearance:


Crosses right under the tcases and tucked the CAT above the skid. 5.29's on the 87 was perfect with 37's.
Going with 4.88's and 35's on the 97. This will be a driver til the end of the year, so this should get me close to the stock power distribution.
