You'll need to provide the stored codes.

So i bought i new coil pack of ebay for $21 bucks. I got it in the mail today swapped it out with a coil pack in the engine, I took it for a ride and the CEL starts flashing again so i swapped it out with the other coil packs and same exact thing for both of them. So does a flashing CEL mean a for sure misfire? and if so what else causes misfire besides bad plugs/wires and bad coil packs? I have not got the codes ran yet, thats next on the list

After reading up a little more i am starting to think its a bad fuel injector. Does anyone know what a toyota mechanic would charge to change one out?

If you haven't done this by now, you need to find an OBDII scanner and check for codes. Autozone or any other auto part store chain can do this for free. And even do a print out of the codes your Runner is throwing. It may be a bad injector. Could still be a coil pack. May just be a bad plug or wire. You'll never know where exactly to look until you pull the codes. If it is a misfire, you'll get a P0300 code. P0300 is random/multiple misfire. P0301 - Cylinder 1 misfire. P0302 - Cylinder 2 misfire. P0303 - Cylinder 3 misfire... You get the idea. Check out the codes, and report back here. Then someone can point you in the right direction.
Good luck!

Thanks for your response, as of right now it does not have a plate, tags, or insurance so i am hesitate to take it anywhere to get the codes ran, but that definitely next on the list. I bought it cheap as a fixer upper so as it sits now i have about $1000 bucks into it. Hopefully once i get this figured out she will run like she was meant to

Just bumping this thread...picked up a 97 3.4 limited 4wd for 1200 at an impound lot and has the same problems described above anybody know common problem or any help or comments will be appreciated thanks a lot

Start with pulling the plug and look at them.

After that you will want to check the Coil's, wires, etc...

Keep us posted

Everything you do without knowing the codes is a shot in the dark. Get the codes, there's no way around it unless you like wasting time and money.

Thanks for the responses.
Haven't had money to rent a code reader yet but I did do a compression test on all 6 cylinders and cylinder 1thru 3 read 200 and 4thru 6 read 190. Good compression.
but when I removed cylinder 2 and 3 plug a lil bit of coolant seem to be on the plugs so im guessing leaking head gasket? any imput is appreciated thanks again .

98 3.4L

well. Ive got 300,302,305

started as only flashing at highway speeds while decelerating or coasting with throttle depressed slightly. would quit flashing when i gave a little more throttle. is now coming on more, with same circumstances, just in more cases during my daily drive.

i feel no distinct miss, ever. just a noticeable lack of full power

New plugs, wires, fuel injectors (6), fuel filter, air filter, air sensor at the intake

swapped coils, codes stay the same

Declining power, fuel economy, and Moral
