'98 4Runner Purchase Consideration

I'm a new dude to the forum but have been actively reading posts the last few weeks as I'm really interested in purchasing a 4Runner soon.

Am I crazy for considering to buy a used '98 4runner v6 with 244k miles on it? What issues should I look out for at this level of mileage? How close to the moon have you folks driven your 3rd Gens, in terms of mileage?

Mine has this kind of mileage. If scheduled maintenance has been done now worries.

I bought mines the beginning of this year with 242K and it came with the folder of all(3) past owners. I still would of bought it regardless of the maintenance history. Even though I'm a mechanic, it's less money out of pocket and more time with family.

I'm new as well to the 3rd gen 4runner. Purchased 2 in the last month one a 4cyl 4x4 auto 265k and the other a 96 3.4 manual with 286k. Check how bad the frame rust is also turn the heat on to see if the heater core is leaking lol just found out today my 96 has a bad heater core or hose?? These 3rd gens are so much better then the 2012 limited I had.

If you give a regular maintenance it should last to 300-350k not a problem.
My has 256k and still run strong.

I own a 98 SR5 4x4 V6 and I had no problems up to the point I had a con rod failure. I just finished a JDM engine replacement and I'm back on the road. My problem, I discovered was, the previous owners never changed the oil.... I had no records, so I took the risk. The truck was in showroom condition, so it was worth it to me to replace the engine. Not a difficult job and there are lots of parts around. I don't regret anything. I did get 2 yrs of trouble free use, and it was still running when the rod failed--- never let me down. I love this truck. Wish it had a little more power.... even that can be remedied with a little money....
