98 4wd doesn't work, need it tomorrow!

Hey guys, I'm supposed to be going wheeling with some guys on here in GA tomorrow and my 4wd conveniently decided to stop working yesterday. It's a 98 sr5 with the J-style 4wd shifter. It's not a fuse, cleaned all the connectors on the TC and front axle with electrical connector cleaner and still nothing. I read a write up on here and switched the 2 vacuum lines on the VSV and now it works. So now I'm trying to figure out what that means and if it'll hurt anything to leave it like that for tomorrow. Any inputs would be greatly appreciated and I'm 2 minutes from the stealership if i need to grab anything, thanks!

No, it won't hurt anything. Just remember to switch the hoses back when you go back to to 2wd. The worst that could happen is it could fix itself while you are in 4wd and then you would lose front traction all of a sudden, but no risk of damage. Or you could have the ADD engaged in 2wd, not serious at all but some minor additional wear and lose an mpg or so.

You proved your problem is not in the front diff. The next step is to get a DMM or test light and see if the electrical 12V+ signal to the VSV's switches sides when you go from 2wd to 4wd. If it does, and you have good vacuum, then VSV is bad. If it does not, problem is electrical. Let me know which and we can go from there.

Did you check for good vacuum full-time at the short hoses to each VSV? Are you auto or 5-speed?

[MENTION=10169]TheDurk[/MENTION] I figured it out a few hours after I posted that, haven't been on here since then. It ended up the vacuum hose that comes off the manifold had come off down where it connects to that plastic piece where the other hoses go down to the front diff. Thanks for the help!
