98 limited 4x4 will not down shift and stalls

I just purchased a 98 4runner v6 auto that stalls if you do not manually shift the trans, if you start in 1st manually shift it to 2nd then drive its fine. When you are coming to a stop if you don't down shift it will stall as well. I had already planned on putting in a used trans but could this possibly be a simple fix? The cel is on but I haven't gotten the 4 runner home yet I also noticed the trans was overfilled obviously I will start there but do you guys have any ideas.

Overfilled trans? Make sure you don't have the pink milkshake. Take your rad cap off and see if it pink and foamy.

Trans fluid looks nice and clean but I have not checked the coolant yet, the previous owner stated this happened in the parking lot at her college and she just stopped driving it. This also doesn't happen in reverse.

I replaced the shift solenoids and the problem is solved!
