98 O2 Sensor clip on top of trans?

Re: O2 sensor 1, on a 1998 5-speed V6.

Was surprised when looking to replace the sensor--is that clip really up on top of the transmission? Son of a... is it normally stuck up there?

Any tips for getting at that thing?

Learn to love your transmission--I first studied the new harness to see how it fits in to the connection--and using a pocket knife I hugged my transmission and visualized the happenings and did it without looking.

I find removing the shifter trim and accessing it from the interior, makes it fairly simple. Small hands (which I don't have) would help.

Heh. Oh good, get to tell my coworkers I spent Saturday night getting dirty with a tranny.

Going to give this a try first. That's one of few parts of the interior I haven't tried pulling apart yet, so bonus points for novelty.

Yeah, if you enter through the interior, you'll be able to disconnect the old one and then connect the new one from the top and just feed it down to the exhaust instead of trying to reach up from below to connect it.
