I also took advantage of my Dad's heated garage while I'm out here in BC. Did an oil change on the truck. Wow, is it a PITA with the Budbuilts. I refuse to remove them for an oil change.... Lots of clean-up involved if you do this. And to top it all off.... I overfilled the oil slightly - I hope its not going to hurt anything! Fingers crossed.
I also did a small "mod" to my front frame rails where the ODL bumper attaches. When installing the ODL bumper you have to drill through the ends of the frame rail for an additional attachement point. This is a good thing but I found that when I tightened that bolt up, I had slightly squeezed the frame rail enough to bend it. So I removed the bolts (one per side) and cut a steel rod to act as a brace for the frame rail. I cut it to ~1.75" and had to pound out the slight warp I had previously created. The center diameter of the steel rod was greater than that of the frame bolt so it just slides right through and bolts up as normal. I'm hoping this will just help increase the overall strength of the mounting points. I'll grab some pics to do a better job of explaining once I have my camera out again.

Absolutely! You will absolutely love the trip up to Alaska too. I've been thinking of doing the same but need to check moab, colorado, and the rubicon off my list first. After spending some time on the Alaskan highway this summer and some time offroad in general, there is no place like it. It is literally mind blowing how beautiful it is up north!

Not a 4Runner specific update, but I did get a new camera today. It's been a LLLOONNNNGGG time coming as I felt I had "outgrown" my Rebel XSi a couple years ago. Looking forward to seeing what the full-frame world has to offer and I'm finally going to make the jump to RAW files. Hello Canon 6D!!!!!

I couldn't agree more! I'm still learning the new button configuration and there is SO many more functions but I'm super happy with the purchase.
I got out today and was just playing around with the camera, testing it out if you will.... not all the pics are of my 4Runner but I hope you enjoy them.

Nice pics, I have a buddy with one of these camera's and hes still learning about the many different functions haha. Hopefully after school ill be able to afford one of these, but for now ill stick with my gopro 3 and my D90. 4runner looks great as always, looks like your dog was enjoying the snow as well.
That roof rack looks super clean, I had just bought a Rola, then after seeing yours I considered sending it back but decided I better save for other mods before buying a nice roof rack. Projectors look unreal to haha I got the $70 HID bulbs but they don't cast as crisp a beam as projectors.
Cant wait to go to BC this summer with the 4runner and do some exploring, I miss the ocean and mountains! Keep up with posting pics like these.

The quality and subjects of the photos continue to be outstanding! At this point, I still dream of owning an DSLR someday... It's amazing what they can do...That's an awesome Christmas present to yourself, the SLR!
Oh, and I'm supposed to go shoot one of those things with a broken antler here soon... haha. This will be try #2 for a cow elk tag and my last chance on this tag.

Haha the Whitson rack is, well, the cats meow. I was fortunate enough to trade some of my headlight skills for Josh's roof rack skills and make a deal. Rola's are really nice though, I wouldnt be putting yourself down for that purchase.
Yah, the camera is great. Full frame is just miles ahead of a crop sensor DSLR. I've still got a LOT to learn though, but that's part of the fun. Oh, and I wish I had a GoPro....
PS - as I always tell people, let me know when your out this way!

Thanks a lot Jon! An SLR is a powerful tool for sure. If I hadn't already told my brother I would give him my old one, I would send it your way. You can probably pick up a decent used one for $250 or so. LOL on the self gift, I have an awesome family and other than receiving some pieces of clothing for Christmas, they all bought me gift cards for a local camera shop. I even got more giftcards on my B-Day (Dec. 27th). I had to pitch in a little to afford the new one, but it wouldn't have been possible without my awesome fam. They knew I had been complaining about my current SLR for the past year and how I felt I needed an upgrade to further my photography skills. Needless to say I was STOKED!
Hahah my dog is hilarious. Has one of the most random/funny personalities I've ever seen. So many people are terrified of him because of his looks, but he's the biggest goof ever and super nice. Me and my girlfriend always joke about how our dog's are pretty much our children. Sad, but kinda funny... hahah
Good luck on the elk hunt, I've never been much of a hunter but I'm sure it's a pretty neat experience.

in projector retrofits, the shroud just serves to clean things up a bit, right? Does it have any effect on light output?

Haha no worries man, thanks a lot! They are the the ONE thing on my truck that pretty much cannot be duplicated, so for that alone I'm pretty happy. I guess the light output is OK too.
I've got Gloss Black F-5's waiting for me at the US/Canada border as I type this. I was debating gloss vs. matte black but everyone has the matte black ones so I thought, what the hell, I'm going gloss. I liked the gloss finish on my LC80 wheels a lot so I know these will look even better. Gives me an "excuse" to keep the truck clean and the tires shiny all summer anyways....
Yup, it does nothing for output. Simply looks. Although in my LS460's and the LS430's the shroud is kind of incorporated into a secondary reflector bowl for the projector, which helps give them the ridiculous amount of beam width that they are known for.

Those will look sweet, but the gloss black is pretty glossy...it should look great on your 4runner though. The jealousy increases...

Yah it's funny, I have been searching over on TW and such but havent found a single pic of the gloss F5's mounted on any Toyota. I guess I'll be the test mule (or the one who posts pics of it, at least) and I'm sure Vin will be happy to get some good pics of that finish mounted up!

I've seen both the gloss black and matte black in person and the gloss is pretty shiny. It probably won't be that way when you have them mounted and get some dirt on them.
