98 SR5 - The "Dirt Duster" build

I'm up in Fort Collins but as far as wheeling goes everything is going to still be closed up here due to flooding. That said I've been itching to do some trails south of me like chinaman gulch and such. Just let me know when your heading this way and we can work something out.

Yah We would be doing southern Colorado if we went that direction. Chinaman's Gulch looks pretty fun and so does Holy Cross and several other trails. How about snow though, I know up here, the trails are still limited by snow in May.

Yea they will be limited but Chinaman is open atleast. I know [MENTION=67615]Dirtco[/MENTION] ran it back in march with no snow as far as I could see from his pictures. Holy cross does look real cool too! I really dont know much about openings in that area as I stick up in northern CO mostly.

Addison!! Updates and shots of the Tom Cruiser are looking pretty sick!

I don't even get out of school and on the road home to Western US until the 25th of May. :/ Wish I had some chance of meeting up with you!

Holy cross might have too much snow, but I know that Chinaman's you can run almost year round. May shouldn't be a problem for that trail. Let the board know if you want to run it, I'm sure we could get a good group together for a day run.

Whatever Connor, you've got a year to finish up. 33's can get by on the Con with some good driving skills.

I still have a few items to finish up before I leave. 4x Rigid Dually's, diff oil and T-Case fluid changes, lube drivetrain (birfs and axles), pack, any last minute issues that arrise, etc etc. The only problem is Im in North Dakota at work! 9 hour drive back to Canada tomorrow once I get my guys out here set up our new directional tool and get drilling, and then I can take off back to Canada. Gunna be tight!

Yah lots of reasons and thoughts behind it... honestly made me miss my 3rd gen a lot and realize that right now a SA rig isnt the best option for me. I straight up missed the IFS. Not enough hardcore stuff around here where the SA really could shine. More washboard roads and a lot of highway driving to get to the trails. The Tundra just makes sense.... 2UZ, a little more room inside for a giant like myself, an excuse to get an RTT (lol), and the ability to build a truck that really doesn't exist out there.... no one build non-baja Tundras! I'll miss the Cruiser in so many ways and it will probably be THE truck I regret selling for the rest of my life, but every time I step on the gas and the V8 comes to life, it makes sense. Besides... the Tundra will probably end up on 40's and 1-tons one day. hahaha who knows.

I'm considering 3 linking with coilovers in front and a 5.3 V8 swap into the 80. I have all parts expect for the smog parts for engine but, those are fairly easy to get parts. I think a decent amount of up travel with properly tuned shocks will make a huge difference in the wash board roads you talked about in your Mud thread. I think that would make for a total bad ass 80. The one thing I like about the runner is the smaller size. I'm just not sure what I want to do

Congrats on the article in TCT magazine, nice work! I read through that this morning, and I'm assuming that's the first in a series, correct? There was no "to be continued" at the end.

Also, I'm looking forward to seeing the LT setup on the Tundra.

Excellent plans for the 80. That would be the ultimate setup for me and if I had the time and skill to pull the 3-link and motor swap off, I would have absolutely kept the 80. I really considered a 100 series too before starting to modify my Tundra. The 100 is probably one of the best built toyotas out there and still has the nice 4 link rear end, fully boxed frame, tougher diffs (than the Tundra), and a bunch of other benefits. Only real downfall IMO is the torsion bar IFS... if it was at least a coilover setup it would have been a no brainer.

I bet the LT 4Runner is very nice. I agree, the size is spot on.
