99 4runner limited Transfer Case

Hi all,

I'm in need of a replacement transfer case(excessively damaged gears) for my 99 4runner limited. Just wondering if anyone is aware of a REPUTABLE source for a rebuilt or re-manufactured source? I live in N. California if that means anything.

Your best bet is go to a junkyard and find one. It will be the cheapest and easiest way to get one.

You can also use a manual transfer case. It won't have the Center Locking Diff, but will bolt up just the same. Gotta tie the plugs out of the way.

Will not just bolt up. The Drive shafts will not fit and the electronics will blink in error and not lock the front ADD.

Ok. Sue me for forgetting about the front diff.

Put it on a switch. Lol.

My shafts fit just the same. My problem came when added the custom crossmember, and I didn't have the clocking ring in yet. Then when I did the 63 swap.

The shafts do NOT fit the same. 99+ Limited uses a Multimode Tcase which is longer than a standard Tcase, and the driveshafts are much shorter. If you use the manual case, you have to use the matching driveshafts.

I have personally compared 99 Limited and 99 SR5 cases and drivelines side by side. They are not the same length.

FROM MY EXPERIENCE, they worked.

When I did my manual hub and manual "manual" t-case, I used the same shafts.

The shaft was out a little more on slip, but it worked just fine.

Ran that for about 6 months before I did my 63" swap and had to change shafts.
