99 4Runner, to subwoofer or not?

I am having a really tough time trying to figure out what to do. I have a 99 SR5 model and I going through the process of changing the stereo from stock to aftermarket. I am definetly getting a double din indash dvd player and upgrading the speakers but I don't know if I should get a sub. I want good sound (like everyone I am assuming!) but do not want the rattles or to loose space in the back. Any ideas?

I favor the Infinity Bass Link

I am liking my Infinity BassLink. I have it removed right now and my kids were like "Dad-your stereo is sucking without the deep bass".

Takes up little room in my cargo area and when needed is pretty easily removable. Can be mounted horizontally or vertically depending on which you feel sounds better/takes up less room.

There are other powered subwoofers out there, and I am investigating some that would even fit under the drivers seat of my 89 MR2. One that has caught my eye is the Sound Ordnance B-8PT which I see is out of stock at Crutchfield right now...must be popular...

check out ABT.com they sell the stealth box subs that go over your wheel well. I bought a sub and amp a couple months ago but the amp couldnt hold the power of the sub so it blew up bassically. Im saving up for the stealth box, even though alot of poeple say there over priced, its worth not losing the trunk space. OR you can fiber glass one. just some suggestions

No sub!! I'm old school I guess! They just sound so awful when I pull up to a stoplight and the car next to me is rattling apart!

Dont get me wrong, I like a good stereo and speakers, I just don't see the need for more bass than what comes out of a regular speakers! It sounds so distorted to me, maybe I'm the odd one and just don't get it??

Yeah I think I may try without the sub first, I am going to go with infinity speakers, I can always add a sub if I want to. JL has a small sub called the tw5 that I may check out.

From my experience, subs are like flat screen TVs. Once you go there you can't get enough. And you don't have to rattle your license plate off to achieve decent sub-bass. A modest sub setup will significantly enhance your enjoyment of music on the road.

I have the bazooka el-10 power by an alpine pdx 5.1 and like the bass. It does not rattle my car at all but is enough to get me the low frequencies. They also have a power bass tube. Before that I had a single 12 inch kicker for about a week and it was just to much bass that the whole car rattle.
