99 4runner-why most desirable???

I talked to the guy last night.
He said he didn't think it had the locking rear diff.
The timing belt was last changed at about 60k miles, so it is due.
He is 2nd owner and has records. He says it has never been in an accident. Fla. truck all it's life. I will run Carfax or similar on vin.
He does not want to sell it, but due to unemployment, needs the $$$.
Unfortunately, he is going out of town for the holidays, so I can't see / test drive until the 2nd.

Um, there;s an old Motor Trend / Car and Driver article back from in 96 I believe when the 3rd gen first came out that had a 3rd row seat and there was a photo in the article showing the 3rd row seat.
 
The pic was probably a preproduction pic since I've never seen a Runner with that option on here or on yotatech but if there is one I'd like to see it but I don't think a factory installed 3rd seat exists.

Was that a factory option or a dealer installed option? Was the 2nd row modified to tip forward? Because otherwise it seems to me the only way to access the 3rd row would be to flip the 2nd seat cushion down, drop the seat back, and then climb in which would be very cumbersome.

Just one quibble (or maybe a question.) The article you linked listed the 1999 mods, including this:

10. Combination Meter
A level sensor is provided in the combination meter to detect the inclination of the vehicle. The basic construction and operation are the same as in the ’98 Land Cruiser. The functions that were previously performed by the integration relay have been added to the meter. An odometer and trip meter which uses LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) have been adopted.

I don't know about anyone else, but my 99 does not have this. Was this a Highlander package or limited package feature? And where was it located, on a cluster on the dashboard? Because I don't see any "empty slots" where such a multi-gauge could go.

Anyone got a picture of this? And would it be possible to adapt this to a vehicle that doesn't have one?

How do you know you dont have an inclination sensor, did you take apart your cluster and search the circuit board for it? ;)

The level sensor is provided in the combination meter to detect the inclination of the vehicle. This sensor prevents the fuel gauge from indicating erroneously due to the fluctuation of the fuel surface, which occurs when driving on a slope. It is NOT a clinometer type display unit for the driver to view while driving.

supercharged? that's pretty sweet, i'd not worry about the locker bit it's way cheaper to add a locker then to super charge it, i'd just worry about how many of those miles are on the super charger and if it's still up to snuff. sounds like a sweet ride, good luck with finding a great t4r for you!:zoom:

with a supercharger that is a great price for a 99 with that low of miles.

Note that additional mods may be necessary if you intend to actually use that s/c.

Auto tranny needs some beefing up if I rememeber correctly-also without 7th injector plug and enhanced fuel delivery some suggest it will lean out leading to expensive failures later.

All the same for a well taken care of vehicle it could be a good deal.

Where would I look for the 7th injector, when I actually get to see the truck?
How would I know if the supercharger is "up to snuff" or not?
How much later for expensive failures if those mods were not done when the dealer installed the charger?
 
The guy selling that told you it has a supercharger?? I kept reading this to see where that was mentioned.

Anyhoo, nice truck if it all checks out, if it does have a supercharger and you want to do 7th injector and such check out:

Very cool third row, i'd love to stuff to adults back there. I am also searching for a clean 99'-'00 4runner in Colorado, (willing to go out of state). Of course I really want a '99 Highlander with 5-speed and locker, but if I come across something close enough I may go for it.

I originally messed up and posted this in the classifieds section. The two threads have since been combined into this one.
Go back to the begining. Second one down where I describe the truck I am looking at.....TRD Supercharger and exhaust......
Where would I look on this engine for the 7th injector???
