99 console swap

I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I received the console, ebrake bucket, bracket, and side trim pieces that go in the floor well. I had to trim some material out to get the brake bucket to fit correctly. Bolt it all up. I'm over an inch from the shifter area trim and the rear heat control doesn't come through. Can I bend the upper part of the bracket forward without losing too much height? It's still tons better now but buttoning it all up would be nice.

Thank you all in advance.

Did you get a new bracket along with the center console or are you reusing the old bracket? When I did mine I got the bracket and it was pretty easy, though I know some people bend the old bracket and reuse it

Might have the bracket bolted in backwards?
here is mine from my 98 to 2002 brackets, I don't have temp control version

Thank you. I do have the new bracket and it appears to only fit correctly one direction. The 12mm bolt drops in the brake bucket assembly and two 10mm bolts go behind it.

If it's bolted in like the ones in the pictures it's correct.
The brackets are from an 02'. The 02' had rear heater controls. Not sure if that makes a difference.

Thank you. Not sure if it should make a difference because my 1996 Limited has them as well. It's like the whole thing is shifted rearward even though the bracket is in the correct position. I'm wondering if I should try to drill new mounting holes inside the console? That would allow it to shift forward and maintain the new bracket position. Doesn't make much sense though.

Thank you again.

console brackets

You shouldn't have to drill it.

Squint _Eastwood, could you give him a measurement from the lip of the shift boot trim to the two studs that go up into the console box and maybe another from the lip of the shift boot trim to one of the front e-brake bracket bolts?
Both of my consoles and brackets have been sold from my 99 and 02 part outs
so I can't give him these measurements.

What year is your center console from? There may be two different rear brackets depending on what year your console is, take a look at the video
If your console is either 99 or 2000, the console you have may not fit the 02 bracket.

Interesting. I hadn't seen that particular console bracket before. Then again I've never pulled one off an 02. The ones I've had from 99-00 are identical to the older brackets, just with a little bit shorter. The problem may lie in the console bolt position being different again on the 02s.

I’ve done this swap on a few rigs, all with rear heat.
Not sure on all the donor consoles but I’ve never seen a bracket like the chromate coated one that shares a bolt with the brake lever bucket.

On all mine the brackets old and new were like the black “S” shaped bracket, only differing in height and bolt position.

console

The bracket is definitely 02'. It came from our runner that we bought brand new. I sold the console last year to another member. I might be able to dig up his name and I can ask him what he used for a bracket. That might shed some light on this for us.

So you can use the 1997 bracket, just have to bend it?
