It's a bit scary we are seeing more and more of these threads these days.
Guess the 3rd gen is getting pretty old, but damn![]()
I blew a head gasket and I'm planning to have it rebuilt. Is there anything else I should have the mechanic check or improve while he's that deep.
I talked to my mechanic and he says he uses only original factory parts.
With 267 K miles, try getting a low mile engine. Find a different mechanic to install the engine. I think you should spend no more than $1600 for the engine swap (inclusive of the engine).
These engines are easy to work with . The most terrible with V6 FWD engines.
For 1600 I would throw in a 302 small block! Lol
Why not just replace the head gasket? Just fix what's broken. Not a rhetorical question; I would like to know.I blew a head gasket and I'm planning to have it rebuilt. Is there anything else I should have the mechanic check or improve while he's that deep.

Got it.When you blow a head gasket, coolant gets in your cylinders, and oil. So I believe in theory your not know just "combusting" Air/Fuel you now have a mixture of Air/Fuel/oil. (Correct me if I'm wrong guys but I know I am right?)
When that happens, you get white smoke out of your exhaust, milky oil.
Basically you get coolant in your oil which gets in everything and gunks it all up. So wherever oil goes the coolant will go.
Can you state specifically what are they doing for the "total rebuild" ?
