Found this on Craigslist. Looks to be in great shape, I'd say that's a great price even with some engine troubles.

IMO if you're looking for a 4Runner and don't mind doing some engine work I'd take a look at it. Lot of work has been done to it already it seems.

Wish this was in Minnesota and being parted out. :D I'd love some non-rusted seat rails.. so the plastic covers would actually have enough metal to fasten onto. :)
 
I love where the guy states that he has changed the TB/water pump.......but the heads may need some work. Lol.

If it does have an S/C, one could put that puppy on Ebay, watch the suckers fly to it, and have a parts truck for free or fix it for less than $1000.

If my buddy in Nashville still had his car carrier trailer.....
 
If I had the money I'd totally buy it and swap the engine for the one in my '97, slap the SC back on it, and profit.
 
I have the money, now I just need the justification to steal the supercharger goodies off of it, fix it up and re-sell it.
 
Yeah, snatched up. I hope it ends up on these boards. It would be a great addition to the family.

Overall

Overall it's in fantastic shape; clean in and out with minor cosmetic items here and there. White smoke at exhaust but no knocking when in drive; seems to be head gasket seals. Working with a coworker this weekend to take a look and go from there. Hope to be able to salvage the engine but already found a potential replacement if necessary on the other side of town.

And oh yes, the SC looks so purdy sitting under the hood:eek:

Looks better under the hood than mine does. White smoke definitely sounds like coolant getting into the combustion chamber which would seem to confirm your suspicion about the head gaskets. Being supercharged can cause the gaskets to fail sooner as well.

In any case, these 5VZs are really tough, you can almost always rebuild them with confidence unless they threw a rod. Might give you a chance to see how it performs with a little port and polish...hint hint...
