Hey guys i have a few questions regarding rear springs and need an answer quick actually how much lift do the 99 tall springs give over the oem regular springs my 906 omes are shot and need replacement so i am debating going to oem 99 tall springs but would like some opinons to help me choose which ones i should go with either another set of 906s, 99 talls or any other recomendations you guys recomend? i want to keep it at about the same height the omes are at which is advertised 2 inches of lift.

99 Talls are 1" taller than regular springs.
906's are 2" taller than stock.

Depends how shot your 906's are, new ones will obviously get you higher than you are now. 99 Talls might keep you exactly where you are, might not.

'99 talls are minimum 1" taller than stock, the '01-02 were shorter than earlier years so the difference will be greater. That being said, I only gained a bit more than 1/2" over my '96 springs when I did the '99 talls, it's dependant on lots of factors how much lift you'll see.

my mechanic said the springs werent even touching the rubber holder on the driverside anymore. and is the reason why it is making a clunking sound after i break hard or go over stuff too.

That clunking sound after hitting brakes hard and going over stuff is usually your driveshaft needs grease.

Springs aren't touching the rubber holder?? :wtf: How can that be...so if it's not touching the rubber cones then what is it touching? If your springs aren't touching then there is nothing holding your truck up. Did he show you what he was talking about?

Is your truck leaning hard to the driverside? seems it would be

any one know what oem springs will give me equivalent lift to the 906s? maybe a lc coil?

No coil that i've heard of on this site will give you a 2" lift in the rear besides the 906. In another forum I read that a fjcruiser coil may or may not work to give you a 2" lift. In this case you would put the FJcruiser rear spring on your 4runner but you would be somewhat of a guinea pig.

heres the post

That would have to mean the passenger side rear spring is supporting the entire weight of the rear of the truck?!? For that to happen, the driver side spring would have to be broken!

You could go 99's with a spacer. The will give you the height you want and not mess with the ride quality all that much. The only other spring that gets close to the 906's in height is the Downey springs, but they are ~2.5" and hard to find.

the story from the mechanic doesn't make any sense. you need to get under there and look. your 4runner would be levitating on that side if he was telling the truth. you're not David Blayne are you?

i have been slammed with work so when i got the phone call it was in one ear and out the other. i guess what the mechanic meant is that the driver side coil is weaker than the driver side one at the moment. when i go over bumps and dips the spring is loose and isnt sitting properly. also the rubber spring isolators are a bit worn as well.

You mean weaker than the passenger side? What shocks are you running in the rear, the Piggybacks still? You may need to go up to the 890s or 891s if the 906s are moving around due to a lack of articulation.

I would still like to see some pics when ya have the chance.

well guys i have been away because of work i have been out of town lately. so i ordered new springs 890's to be exact. i went to go pick up my 4runner last night from my mechanic and the noises i was hearing have all gone away. so my personal conclusion is that the icon rear shocks are not ment ot be used with the 906 coils or shorter. they work well with 3inch lift coils like the 890's or anything in that range.

So there was no material flaw with your 906s, just that they were too short for the travel of the Icons?

Post a pic when you have some free time.

Dang your 4runner is a Frankenstein 3rd gen. 96-98 cladding and flares, 99 sport hood, 01-02 grille, hilux mirror and a rear wing. Interesting set up. I like it.

Thanks i love how it looks myself its started out as a 99 highlander edition i added the 01-02 grille and the 01-02 tails and the Jaos rear wing. I bought it with the 96-98 limited cladding on it already from the last owner.
