Yeah, i've read a lot of threads on these tires and always see you throwing in your 2 cents about these Duratracs. It seems like you enjoyed your set and believe me, I want to as well. It's not noise that bothers me, just the vibrations felt throughout the vehicle as certain speeds. I'm determined to try and make these work since they are a Load Range C, snowflake rated, and have heard of good performce off the tarmac...

Nancy, reporting here. I just want give a big thanks to [MENTION=77045]99 sr5 highlander[/MENTION] on taking time, and gas, out his day to let me test drive his 4Runner, equipped with the same exact tires. We drove about 10 miles, on city streets and Interstate, and I was just being WAY to anal about these tires. The feeling was the same in the vehicle... A little more firm, but that could be due to his suspension, other components, etc., but he reported back (drove my Runner behind me) that nothing was out the usual. I am leaning towards keeping them because they're are not a whole lot of other options that check my boxes.
With that said, I drove around 200 miles this weekend. My girlfriend, and her best friend tagged along and we headed to Neskowin and Pacific City. Great time, didn't take any snaps of the Runner really but the weather was cooperating and scenery was just awesome.

My next list to take care of is the Timing Belt/Water Pump. I'm looking into ordering AirCabinMan's (appears all parts are OEM sourced) kit off Ebay. Anybody have any luck with this kit? I was quoted roughly $710 for the dealership to do it, and about $650 for the man next to I work (Toyota Master Tech, good reputable guy). Decisions... decisions...

Thanks. The weather has nothing but great these last few days. The gal and I took further advantage of the first 70+ degree day and took a hike a few miles out of town. Great views of the Valley, Cascade Mountains, and Coast Range.

How did go about trading in your Duratracs? Did you just go to a Discount Tire and the swapped them for the BFG's? Any extra fees or such on your end?

.The guys at the Salem Americas Tore have always treated me great, and it shouldn't be any different from you. I did not have the original invoice for the Duratracs on hand, but was able to pull it up via Email. The guy helping me simply verified that the tires were purchased within 30 days (my invoice stated 03/06/2014) and I was good to go. I payed the addition $9 per tire, $35 total, and they mounted and balanced for free for y troubles, even though it was not their fault. They also transferred over the warranties for my new BFGs, free of charge as well. You shouldn't have any problem if you have the invoices. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Hey bro nice find on that 4runner! Gotta love that combo of multi-mode 4x4 AND the rear diff lock, only found on the 99-00 limited. I saw you in that pic with an A's shirt on...are you an A's fan? I used to live in the Bay Area and grew up as a little kid watching the A's, I love how they have players no one knows but they always seem to win.
So that sucks about your experience with the duratracs...that was definitely going to be my next tire of choice, but after hearing about your problems I'm a little hesitant now. So you just had bad vibrations around 60 mph that would never go away even after balancing a few times? That's strange because you are the only one I've heard that from and everybody just raves about the duratracs.
Also, can you take a few pics of your denso 221-0508 radiator? Where did you order yours? I ordered one from partsgeek and the pic on their site and also denso's site is different from what I got. Mine has these little metal tabs for where the fan shroud bolts on and you can pull them off which I thought was weird. There's just a couple things different from the pics and want to see if yours is the same as what I got. I'm probably just being paranoid since denso is a very reputable brand but who knows. So a few pics of your denso rad would be awesome man! Great start to your new Runner and keep the mods comin!

HUGE A's fan. Born in Hayward, raised in Fremont. I grew up on the Bash Bros, then onto the great staff of Mudler, Zito, Hudson, and Isringhausen to shut the door. There my team and I tune in as much as I can to watch them. Love what the roster has going for them, and even have a local guy to me on the team. Jed Lowrie (North Salem/Stanford) played in the same HS league that I did.
Thanks for the comments on the rig. It's everything I wanted and has been a pleasure to own this last month. I enjoy peeking my head out my home window and just looking at it... It's mine!
I wanted to like the Duratracs, and based upon everything I read, they are great. I even test drove another T4R members with same spec of tire, with similar 4Runner... They were about the same, with only minor differences. Maybe my expectations were too high, but they just didn't cut for me for daily driving. Having the issues I had with them for two weeks, I was just done dealing with it. I went back to a BFG, which I've owned before on previous vehicles and never had a complaint. I didn't want Load Range E, but there were not other options that were going to meet my criteria. I still got them in a snowflake rating, as well as them same size. I am satisfied with these BFGs for now. I did some research, and found some people have had balancing issue on other vehicles, some 4Runner/Tacomas, but like I said before... Just didn't want to deal with the hassle as I know I wouldn't be satisfied with how the Duratracs worked.
I'll snap some pics of the Denso Radiator. I ordered it from Amazon for $101, I believe. My good friend just installed them same one (ordered from Amazon as well) on his 4Runner with no complaints of fitment issues or quality... I trust this guys word over anybody when it comes to a 4Runner. If it goods for him, it's good for me!

Maybe, I still have a shaking issue and will be taking them back to the place I got them balanced at tomorrow. If nothing changes I might get in touch with Discount. A less aggressive tire might be better for me, but I really like the Duratracs.

Ah, I see. Well hopefully getting them rebalanced will solve your issues. I loved the Duratracs looked, but in the end, I did need something less aggressive for all the driving I do. Love my BFGs!

nope, just take a small flat head screwdriver and gently reshape that fin. its not anything to worry about, bugs and other debris hitting a radiator will do more damage than that

That's what I figured, but I guess you never know! I took some needle nose pliers and straightened it as best as I could... even though it's broken in half. Meh, oh well. I'm just stoked to get some maintenance done. Seeing my Transmission Temp hit 212 degrees on a long, steep grade made me cringe last month.

212 really isnt that bad as long as you do not sustain that temp for long periods... i actually had a little scare last night in Roseburg... i was at the taco bell there -dont bother going btw, horrible service, and long waits, but as i was sitting in the drive through i heard an electric cooling fan come on, at first i didnt think anything of it as i thought it was the car in front of me(we were all just sitting there for a good 5 min without moving) and then once they moved the sound was still there, thats when i checked my gauge, and my trans temp had spiked to about 195 and was climbing... -normally i will run about 150 on the fwy and about 160 in town with stop and go traffic. i was really nervous because there should of been no load on the trans as i was sitting still in P with no load on the trans, it stayed high like that too as i was driving around town and got up over 200 on my way to get gas. as long as i was moving i was good, but when i would stop and as soon as i would accelerate it would start climbing i was a little uneasy about getting back out onto the fwy but as soon as i did, and got up to speed it dropped back down to about 160 and stayed for about 5min and then dropped to 150 i was like WTF but all was good the rest of the trip home.
and yes it is such a feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction when we do things to our rigs, its almost energetic. even small things like cleaning out the trash or washing the truck.
