'99 Toyota 4Runner. Runnin' down a dream.

F-250 is sold. I am keeping my eye out for a 1999 / 2000 4Runner in the 8K - 10K range .

Thoughts? If this thing was silver or black, i'd already own it. I am really only hung up on the exterior color. The price is pretty fair for our area, but I have them talked down to $9,000. Main features I am liking: Rear differential locker, maintenance history, lower miles, and weathertech liners.

The truck looks very clean to say the least, I like it. I have seen some pretty stellar green T4R's on this forum, so don't let the color get you too much!

Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure why I am getting so hung up on the color. I guess I have, for the most part, always owned solid color vehicles to the effect of White, Black, and Silver.

I probably should go check it out today...

If it's a clean platform at the right price, then don't count it out. The two-tone would definitely be giving me second thoughts, especially when parked next to a single-tone Imperial Jade Limited, but you could always change the color of the flares and bumpers later if the vehicle is good enough to you to be worth it.

I am passing on that one for the time being, unless they want to sell it to me for 8K. The color just won't do it for me. The search goes on... even looking at some 1st Gen Tacomas! I'll post what I find, if I like.

This one has high miles (195K Miles), but I may be able to get it for a decent price ($6,000). What all would you replace, from a preventive maintenance standpoint?

Here is what I came up with:
-Water Pump
-Lower Ball Joints
-Inner and Outer Tie Rods
-Radiator
-Add Transmission Cooler

If I pay $6,000, put another $1000 - $1500 into preventative maintenance, I should have $2,500 - $3,000 in modification money which would go to bumpers / OME lift / tires. The high miles are a little bit cause for concern, but this owner has a thick stack of records and it is a Toyota after all... Thoughts?

That one looks pretty nice, and I think the price is right for around here- especially in the winter.

Check it out, but as you know, don't settle for anything less than what you want.

I've been lurking here for a while absorbing the knowledge. I live just south of you in The 'Burg and looking for a 3rd Gen. The search has been slow and not too fruitful for me yet. Any tips on where I should look?

I, for the most part, am utilizing Craiglist with a search criteria all the way from Redding, CA to the US / Canadian boarder.

You definitely have to be patient this time of the year, but one will eventually pop up that suits your needs. My last two 3rd Gens I found in a matter of days... I am going on week 2 of the search and growing a lil' restless!

I ended up in a 2002 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab TRD (w/ Electronic Rear Locker). 144,xxx miles. Grandpa owned and has been well maintained with records. I got one heckuva deal, for my area, so I am beyond stoked.

I'll still hang around!
