99runner from the cold prairies heaaa

Hello to all - long time lurker here. I picked up a '99 4runner limited last august from the original owner (lady nurse) with 189k (Kilometres) for $4700 (Canadian dollars). Been garaged since new, maintained by a bmw mechanic in recent years :s



Since then I have done the following work to it:
Timing belt
Power steering belt
Alternator belt
Rebuilt the alternator, cleaned off corrosion and new brushes
Ac belt
Ac compressor with clutch
Ac receiver dryer
Expansion valve
Thermostat and gasket
Water pump and gasket
Idler roller
Tensioner roller
Front camshaft seals
Front crankshaft seal
Hydraulic tensioner
02 sensors
Spark plugs
Wires
Cleaned fuel injectors and replaced number 5 after misfire code
Sea foam treatment!
Radiator and hoses
Couple tranny drain and fills


Next up -
Tundra brake upgrade
Tacoma ball joints
Satoshi grill?
Sound system?
Hopefully a lift
Maybe some armour..

Damage caused by neighbour!!!!

So this happened - neighbour was moving, all his shit packed up and hits my 4runner...actually latched on to it by the rear bumper while she was parked..and even dragged it a bit.

I have spoken to a gent from 4x about the front, rear, and sliders. I think I am going to go for it and document my experiences here.

4x4 parts? If so, look elsewhere. They are extremely over priced and most specialty places can get you the stuff for cheaper, and will install if you do not want to for cheaper.

I think he meant 4xInnovations. Very reasonably priced stuff, but just make sure it's what you want... Even if it saves you a couple hundred dollars, you'll regret it if it's not the one you want.

Me, for example. I wish I had gotten the Addicted front bumper instead of my CBI... Their new hybrid is sexy beyond words.

What's up buddy, I have checked your thread out a couple of times in the past as I was obsessed with the idea of running icon suspension in the past. Was not sure how long I would keep my girl and started also looking for an landcruiser, so have been much more open minded to other suspension.

I actually had a return phone call from chap from addicted. Their "give me all of it" kit looked pretty sick!

Both dudes from 4x and addicted seemed very easy to deal with and I certainly took quite a bit of their time, they were cool about explaining their products and took their time to discuss options with me.

It will be a tough decision. Anyone who wants to weigh in on their buying experience from either, please feel free..I have been using the search function and reading about bumpers and sliders recently on this great forum.

Folks, I am going to go for a kit consisting of front and rear bumpers, sliders, and winch.

So far I have spoken to 4x, addicted, cbi, and shrockworks.

I have to say - those from each company I spoke to spent an incredible amount of time and were really patient with me, explaining all of the differences and characteristics of their products. Customer service from each company has been genuinely the tops. Granted, I have not spent one red cent yet, but so far I oils not hesitate to buy armour from any of them.

If anyone would like to give any of them the nod in my direction from first hand experience, feel free, it is greatly appreciated. If not, the search button has served me well so far....

Always open to recommendations as well..

Of the companies you've listed, I have only purchased from two of them.

4xInnovations: I purchased a set of their HREW sliders with kickout about a year ago from them and their customer service was great. Explained to me the difference in HREW and DOM and did not try to up-sell me on the DOM when I told them my expected usage.

I have not yet installed them for some reason, but there are a couple of things that bug me about them.

First- There is something inside of one of them so that if I pick it up and move it around I can hear it jingling inside of the tube. Probably not a big deal, but if it does that when it's installed it will drive me nuts.

Second- When I first got them, they were my first piece of welded armor and I thought they were awesome. However, upon recieving my bumpers from CBI and skid plates from Savage, the welds are nowhere near as good looking as either of those two companies. They look like something you would expect from a guy in his garage welding for fun, where the CBI and Savage welds look like art.

CBI- Their customer service is great, and always quick to answer and questions, or respond to any issues. I have yet to leave a conversation with them feeling like they're giving me the short end of the stick.

Their products are very well made, but if you look around at pictures of people's bumpers installed you'll notice that a good amount of them don't have bolts in certain spots because they simply don't line up (even in the advertising shots on their website they're missing bolts). Now, this is an easy fix for you but it's something you'd not expect to do having just spent so much money on a product. Maybe they've fixed that, but I doubt it.

Now that I have started making some higher cost purchases I have learned that as a consumer I am allowed to expect excellence from the products I am spending my hard earned money on. If you're upset about something going on with the product, give them a CALL (e-mails are great, but a conversation on the phone or in person is much better) and make them take care of you.

I too demand absolute maximum value per every single red cent that I spend. Always been that way. Partly because it is the prudent thing to expect...but also because I hail from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.....where we want gold for the price of tinfoil!!!!

...just kidding, kind of..I would not say cheap...just demand max value per dollar!

Adam I think his name was, from 4x. **** that guy was cool. I too did not feel as though he tried to up sell the DOM either after explaining thoroughly the difference.

Cbi was good too, excellent really. Spent the time to discuss the products for my uses and again did not try to upsell.

Shrockworks fella spent about 40 mins discussing options with me. He seemed to be good shit as well.

Honestly I would not hesitate to buy from any of them.

To echo what mr wilson mentioned here. Logic says cbi...but I have eyed the shrockworks front bumper and sliders for at least a year.

I am basing this solely on some of the complaints I have seen regarding shrockworks. Though the guy I spoke to today seemed rock solid.

Nothing against addicted or 4x. Everybody has their own flavour. I am sure their armour is tops notch I just love the look of shrockworks a bit more.

Shrockworks seems to be the most expensive by a country mile. I am not sure how to quantify the difference in quality if one exists...if I go that route I am just hoping the lead time sticks to lead time.

Anyone care to comment on recent orders from shrockworks pertaining to lead times and fit/finish?
