A/C Defrost Mod- Need Help From Someone Smarter Than Me

Something that has bothered me for a while is that I can't turn off the A/C compressor when the HVAC is on defrost. Yes, I appreciate the science behind it but sometimes I just need air flow without the drying effect.

Forum member OrdnanceMarine posted this mod he did to be able to turn the compressor on & off by switch. But there's this thread from TacomaWorld that I would rather duplicate. It seems to relegate all compressor on/off control to the existing On/Off/Auto knob (center one in my truck).

In the TW thread the wires one needs access to are located in the dash, to the left of the glove box. One simply removes a wire from the connector, tapes it up and the A/C Amplifier is then solely controlled by that center knob on the Environmental Control Panel. Looking in the same place next to my glove box, things look nothing like the pick in the TW thread.

My question: Can the same TW mod be done in my 2008 4Runner?

I'm running a defrost or foot/defrost most of the time in both my cars because with 3 people in the car talking and singing you get a lot of fogging up in front of you. However, un-AC'd air does a perfectly good job of defrosting most of the time (as I well know from older cars).

Unfortunately, every modern car has Defrost modes linked to the AC compressor for de-humidification.

I'll be curious what you find RPC, as I'd like to do the same.

I like to feel the breeze in my hair even on days I can't open my sunroof.
