A/C issue - NOT the norm

So, when I bought my 03 4runner with 245k miles on it, one thing I accepted is a noisy a.c. compressor. I figured its days were numbered. I tried an oil charge but it did no good.
I noticed the other day w the warm weather, it wouldn't kick on.
I've Googled and searched here but the one thing different is my a.c. light IS NOT flashing like most mention. It's still solid. Just no compressor (clutch on the front) turning, and ambient air blowing out.

Where should I start?

open the hood and visually confirm that the cluttch is engaging and the compressor turning when u hit the a/c button..........when my compressor locked up...the a/c light was solid...no blinking.just that the compressor wasnt turning........also with the car off. try rotating the clutch by hand.........if it rotates..then probablly its still good.

next step would be to hook up a set of guages to the high and low side....post the values.

If your freon level drops below safe levels, the compressor will cease to pump. Assuming that you establish that your freon is low, then we can address where the leak is. It happens.
