A/C Pressure "normal" no cold air though....

Anytime you open the system, which is required to replace the expansion valve, then you need to replace the receiver/drier and vaccuum the system.

is there a write up of this procedure? i've read a few that said they fixed there issue by replacing the Expansion Valve but there are no details of the procedure, just the voila they fixed it.

Well there's that link, and he just replaced everything. I think that's about as close to a write up I've seen. The expansion valve is connected to the evaporator behind the dash. Remove the glove box and it's behind there.
 
Almost all of the R134 systems I service the low side is about 25 psi and the high side is about 175 psi at around 1200 rpm. A bad expansion valve has either low side really low or in a vacuum and the high side really high. Or high side low and low side high. The reason it was shutting off is because it was over pressuring and the pressure switch shut it down before it blew the pressure relief valve. You might still be overcharged a little but close. Might have to be driving to get more air across the condenser for colder A/C

well what you've said makes sense too, but i haven't added any R134 to it since... i can't hardly remember, like 2010 or so, before last week. i'll drive it around before i add anything, but from what i've read it sounds like the expansion valve is having issues, no?

You added some last week right? And 2010 ish? I might have read it wrong. I've never tried the can with the gauge on it so I don't know if it just adds Freon or you control it. I did have a car come in way overcharged from one a few weeks ago. Had like 450 psi on the high side as soon as the A/C kicked on.

Damn! That is R410 pressures! Scary....

i spent the extra 6$ for the can with the gauge on it and they have a push button to control how much is added. it's working better now, so somewhow i think the high side was over pressured and the low side was under? or maybe the gauge on the can was cheap Chinese crap.... :wtf:

This is the symptom of a restricted expansion valve.

If your 4Runner came in my shop with the pressures where you say they are I would suck some Freon out and see if it gets colder.

Damn! That is R410 pressures! Scary....

Should have heard the compressor... It was not happy haha

Done, and it did. It was an accidental purge since i had so much trouble getting the high pressure fitting on, but same effect. And it is working better now, i also cleaned off the Expansion valve (GENTLY, with a long screwdriver, long really needle nose pliers & vacuum) much better flow now, and i think a little bit cooler too. Hopefully this solves it, thanks for the input guys, much appreciated!
