A/C Problem Please Help!!

I have a 2005 4runner V6 . My a/c light is flashing and no, it's not the freon and it is not the mc relay as I swapped relays with the fog light relay and it still does the same thing and when I put the mc relay in the fog light spot , the lights work. So it's not the relay (which I hoped it would be because it's such an easy fix) When I turn on the ac , it will come on for exactly 5 seconds with cold air, then light starts blinking. Compressor does come on but shuts down when light starts blinking so I assume that computer is telling compressor to shut down. I was told that it is probably the rpm speed sensor causing this. Also I was told that there are 2 types of compressors , 1 has this sensor internally (which means replacing compressor) and 1 is external. I can't get a straight answer from dealer on where to look for the sensor on my 4runner (they want me to take it in of course) and diagrams don't tell me much either. Anybody come across this or know where to look for this sensor? Or any other thoughts?

Here is a picture of the sensor you are looking for, but I don't think it is sold separated from compressor.

Some compressors are sold with it some without.

Good luck I have a similar issue with my truck but the AC only shuts off when I'm at idle speed.

Thanks for the picture, was hoping i could just replace the sensor because I know there is nothing wrong with the compressor itself. Frustrating! Thanks again.

Let me know how it goes, i'm going to start looking for a compressor online. I'm going to change the oil this weekend and still hoping I will see a broken wire or something easy thats causing the problem.

OP, I have no idea if this is your issue, but have you seen this?

Fixed the AC blinking issue. it was not a bad relay or anything. Dealer did a flsuh and refill on the freon and some how reinstalled the MT CLT back in the foglight spot.

update

Update: Finally broke down and replaced compressor. Had it recharged and now I have cold air again! Although it probably wasn't the compressor itself but the rpm sensor that is internally in the compressor. And the only way to fix it is to replace the whole thing :( but just happy its working again!:)

i have a similar problem, blibking ac light. its not freon or magnectic clutch.
the a/c trys to start, bogs down my rpm, and then fails to start, slight smell of hot rubber..and then the blinking light.

i think my compressor or magnetic clutch might be toast.

this happened to anybody before?
