A couple of running board questions ...

we are exactly in the same boat. I emailed 5 southern california dealers, and only one responded, and Im suspecting the quote he gave me was for a pre-2014 RB. hopefully soon, i'll go to that dealer and see with my own eyes if its really the 'KH' version,
I got an idea, who is the best or biggest or well-known toyota OEM accessories store ?? maybe they can help ?

Well, if you have any luck, please let me know. So far I've hit up two San Diego area dealers, who showed me an exploded diagram if the running boards on their system. There is no kit part number, but I was told they could technically order the parts individually as replacement parts, but it's not cost-effective. Ends up being >$1000 to retrofit a $344 option. What's frustrating is, why didn't Toyota just make these standard, at least on 4x4's? It literally looks like something is missing when you look at the truck from the side. And I haven't had any luck with the aftermarket , either, since the truck is so new. My 4 yr old is having a hell of a time getting into & outta this thing, lol.

it might be possible to fit a trail RB to a limited by asking a local welding shop to modify the brackets so it will fit into the limited -just an idea to explore.-what one would call an RB mod

not sure, but i think nodak was posting in reply to the thread starter(philsey) who was thinking about buying a limited.... so looks like we have limited and sr5 people who are interested in the trailer running boards. I emailed toyota USA waiting for reply...anyways, i feel in the end we will get our answer...by 2014 at least The main reason i want to get these RBs soon is to help protect my 4runner doors against scratches/dings when parked in the parking lot against adjacent parked car owners who fling their doors open.

if the boards detect resistence, they will fail to extend or retract and you will get a nice little light on the dash to indicate a malfunction.

failure to extend wouldnt be a big issue, the retract issue might be since they extend down and out much more than the rigid ones.

Thanks, I was just imagining the running boards trying to force their way through ice and was thinking how expensive that could get. This seems like a good solution.

If the brackets wrap around the frame, then the XReas line may be a challengeddepending on if the bracket can slide between the line and the frame.

Similarly, if it uses sticknuts, you may not have access to a hole in the frame to feed the sticknut. This is all based on my experience with shrockworks sliders and skids on my 2010 Limited.

Also, as mentioned, the rocker panels on the limited come lower than on the TE and SR5.

Thanks for the offer. Before I take anyone's time, I think I'll go to the dealer and crawl under a TE and LE. Besides, at least for now, it doesn't look like the "rigid' RBs are orderable separately. And, toy.com/build lists no RBs for the LE except the automatics. Gotta be a reason...

Yea, the boards on my 2011 look like that. Here's another Canadian 4runner i googled. Looks the same to me..

I'll be darned. to be honest I havent taken a hard look if the RBs on pre-2014 trail 4runners in the states are like yours. I did a quick google, and sad part though is that in the states, it looks we have different RBs for the 2013 trail like on this site:

Thought I'd update this thread instead of starting a new one with the info I found on the 2014 Running Boards. Keep in mind that this info is from a dealer located in New Hampshire which is in the New England Toyota Dealer Region and as others have mentioned, it appears different variations of these running boards can be found in other regions. These are the only part numbers I've been able to find online.

Per Toyota of Nashua parts website:

power boards

I've got the power running boards. I like them, they sit our farther and lower than the rigid ones I tired. My wife and I are short and they work out well. My 3 year old can climb into her seat using them. They work well for us.

So far, I've driven in 2 snow storms with no issues. No icing or jamming. A bit of crud on them, but that's hard to avoid.

Notice the big price discount they are giving... the 2010 to 2013 owners should be able to confirm if the RB photos you posted are 2010 to 2013 RBs..when I emailed all the southern california dealers, none replied when I asked about the 2014 RBs..we might have to wait until first-half of 2014 before the 2014 RBs are available...

Yep, the Trail version looks like the ones that came on my 2012. Also, $297 is a good price!

Could be. They have them listed as bring for the 2014 Models.
