A Few 4th Gen Questions...

I would disagree with what you posted from my personal experience. I raced a new VW GTI with the same 4cyl 2.0L turbo motor and got beat very easily in my 05 V8 4x4 limited 4runner. This was from a red light basically 0-50mph.

Same engine, different animal. The A4 is a relatively slow car to 60 at around 7 seconds and even slower after that. The 4Runner has no issue pulling ahead at a red light or on the highway. Been there, done that.

I like my 4Runner quite a bit, but if what you say is true, I need to get some work done on it. There is no way in hell that 4Runner would come close to keeping up with my BMW or my Volvo. It might get the Volvo off the line for about 25-50 feet due to Turbo lag, but that's about it.

BMW 330 0-60 in 6.6 seconds, a whole .3 faster than the 4R. Not exactly a quick BMW by any means. Your 03 also doesnt have VVt-i which improves power in the upper RPM range.

I work at a toyota dealership and our audi store is across the street and ive driven them both plenty. Maybe its the turbo tq that makes it feel faster. Oh well I bought the 4runner for crusing with the dog and trying to get better gas mileage than my BMW LOL. But I would be in for a 5.7L tundra motor swap :

Yea it's the turbo. Our S5 doesnt feel quick but has no issue getting to 155 - I know.

you must be looking at the wrong gen 330, mine (e90) is documented at sub 6 sec speeds. Actually, .3 of a sec is huge in racing. I have a hard time seeing a stock 4runner do any 0-60 under 7 sec, actually

Show me. They didn't put the abomination of the twin turbos in until 2008. It the same old 3L flat six in yours and the xi is slower than the 2wd. Yea sure racing but comparing a frame based truck to a BMW is a different story.

read the article, has both the diesel and the 330i.
same old flat six? thing is an amazing powerplant. don't know what your hate on is for bmw, but the have racing and development history.
mine gets 30mpg plus combined driving and is a joy to drive as well.
I didn't compare apples to oranges, someone else did. But you are inaccurate with your own comment, unless u meant the e46 330

actually, wrong again. 07 had the TT.
also, my bro has the TT, not a problem yet. They've extended the warranty of the HPFP to something ridiculous like 10-12 yrs. i'll check with him and come back. His car is a rocket. 300hp and tq, under 2k rpm and handles like a dream

I know what you mean, I had a 05 S4 with the V8 as modified as you could back in those days (downpipes, exhaust, CAI, falshed by REVO tuning, coilovers, sways, etc, etc,etc) and that car was FUN!!! I just wished you could get the supercharger for it back then cause I would have kept it.

I didn't buy my 4Runner for speed. I bought it for power and I love that aspect of it. But my cars feel fast when I punch them and the 4Runner does not feel near as fast. I'm not timing them or really trying to race them, but I know what I feel. The 330xi feels really quick to me. Hard to believe it really isn't fast when it comes to BMW's. It's the 1st one I ever owned. Had plenty of Turbo Volvo's though.

youre right in 2007 there was a 328 and 335 available NOT the 330. The 328 was the same motor as the 330, BMW just changed the name for some reason.

Absolutely agree about the sound! The supercharger would be a must if I still had it. My buddy had a 07 Audi RS4 that was supercharged by VF engineering and it was a beast. If you youtube my screen name you will see some of our racing vids. And if you youtube Queso's S4 vs Deebo's S2000 youll see a vid of my old S4.

They stated the diesel got there in 6 sec.
sure they have lost some customers, but they have also switched to a single turbo set up, should be more reliable. Bmw has historically been a n/a company, for decades, they are new to the turbo game. Do you really want to talk about ****ty r & d? i think of about 5 errors in engineering on my 4runner alone that are $$$$ to repair, and dealer specific. They are issues that are talked about daily on this forum. What is your point again? bring your 4runner here someday, we'll find a track to race and see just how fast 1 sec feels
