Are you in Atlanta? I think I saw a sign to 85 but I'm not sure.
But it sucks regardless. I totaled my 98 in May 2010 when a guy in a Honda Accord pulled out in front of me. It was totaled ((6,500$ for repairs) and I hated to see it go. It was always so good to me. Hope for the best!

I stopped reading the rest of the posts when I got to this one. If you love your 4runner like I love mine, and you plan on hanging on to it till it dies then you probably don't want it totaled. I've been in so many wrecks, there is no resale on my 4runner but it looks great, runs great and I plan on driving it till it dies so I am not worried about resale. If you plan on selling it then yes totaling it out is probably best in this situation.

Total it and buy it for few $$ and use rest to buy another. Slowly fix your beloved 4runner. Sell the other one you bought. That's what I would do. You can get all the body parts for about $300? . Some how find a place to fix the core support. Rest, bolt on.... Your radiator is still good...

Sorry but you can not just directly swap an elocker onto any year / type of 4Runner. It has to be a certain year onto compatible year swap.

Very true, but i meant to search for a 4runner within the same model years. He just wouldnt have to search for another '99 and it wouldnt require a locker. Although like he said, he had it pretty good with his find.
IMO, if the OP doesnt care about selling it, I would try and save that 4runner as much as possible. It would be a shame to total a car with approximately 10-20% damage done to the entire vehicle. Rebuilding a 4runner goes beyond the practical resale value. If you adore it, if you love it, fix it up. People with '85 4runners and $10,000 into aftermarket equipment obviously dont care about resale, they have passion. (BTW, Brianemc, this paragraph wasn't aimed towards you, just voicing my opinion to OP. Im sure you know this. By the way, you have a cool name!)

There are still lots of unknowns at this point. I'm going to wait and see what the estimate comes to and go from there. If they decide they will pay to fix it, then that's what I will do. If they want to total it then I'm going to see what they will give me for it and then see if it what I could purchase back for and go from there. In the mean time. I'm keeping my eyes open for another 99-02 4x4 4Runner if anyone knows of a nice one for sale.

Well, I got the call yesterday. My 4Runner is totaled. Estimate came to $5,900. They said my truck was valued at $7,375 and I could buy mine back for $500. By the time I got through bargaining with them I am getting a check for $7,100 and I get to keep my 4Runner. Not a bad deal considering I paid $5600 for it 4 months ago. I'm looking at a very clean 2001 Limited 4WD tomorrow. I am going to put my wrecked one on Craigslist and see what I can get out of it after I get my wheels, tires and lift off of it. I don't like the 01 limited wheels as much as the 99s. I may swap out the locker to the 01 if it's not too much trouble. I hate to see the old one go, but I'm looking forward to starting on the next one.

Glad to hear your getting a good check out of it, and getting to keep it. My suggestion is since you haven't had this one too long, part it out. Put it on the Forums and gut it, then sell whatever scrap is left over, you'll recoup the couple hundred bucks difference between what they paid you and value, plus have a few bucks to invest in the new ones. Best of luck on the hunt.

I'm considering parting it out. All of the interior is in great shape including the leather, carpet, air bags, steering wheel is perfect. I'll post it in the classifieds if I decide to part it out.
we'll be watching the classifieds...
BTW, who is your insurer, and how was your experience with them?

I wasn't at fault so I wasn't dealing with my insurance company. The truck that caused the wreck was an Aramark truck. They are self insured. They use a 3rd party by the name of Sedgwick to process their claims for them. They were okay to deal with. I'm happy with my deal. Only complaint I had is that they wouldn't call me when they said they would and I had to keep hounding them to get my claim processed.

don;t know what your getting from insurance or how much to buy it back but my buddy was able to cover the cost of the buy back just by selling the rear end and trans.....everything else was profit....divided by time....

haha, you could get that in scarp metal...buy it back part it out for a bit then call someone to come grab the rest for a few hundred bucks...

Went to look at the 2001 today that will be replacing my 99 and gave the girl a deposit to hold it for me. It is nice. It has 214,000 miles on it but you would never know it. I am buying it from the second owner. First owner owned it for 11 years. Current owner has had it about 7 months. She bought it to hunt with and then decided it was too nice to hunt out of and bought a Jeep. It has no scratches, dents or dings. It has never been in the mud. Everything underneath is very clean. Interior is a 9.5 out of 10. Has apparently had husky liners in all positions since it was new. Carpet looked new underneath including the storage area. Drives seat had some wear but not tears. Steering wheel looked new so maybe it's been kept in a garage. Didn't see any leaks around the rear axle or any leaks from the front axles or boots. It looks like it has kept up and has recently been inspected but she wasn't sure if the timing belt had been replaced or not. All of the drive belts were new so I'm hoping they were replaced along with the timing belt. It drove great. No warped rotors or anything weird going on. I'm going to put a new radiator on it and lower ball joints for peace of mind along with the lift, Spidertrax, tires and wheels off of my wrecked one.
