I don't believe you- prove it. :lmao:

... The idea is that the controller and the 1/4" plywood base it will be mounted to can simply be pulled out of the cubby hole when not needed - or when the boss notices that i'm falling asleep at the wheel, yanks out the controller, and bangs it against the dashboard a few times.
>>>> I wanted a solid mount to insure the controller didn't pop out while wheeling, me seeing it fall, me reacting by hitting the truck brakes, resulting in the trailer brakes locking.
i don't really want the big plastic controller mounting bracket permanently mounted to the ceiling of the cubby hole. Maybe cmrdcody can clarify - it looks like you first tried to mount the controller centered side-to-side in the cubby hole, but then discovered that you had to offset it to the left so the connector would clear some ducting - that's why you you elongated the hole and mounted it off-center to the left. Pretty obvious, but i just want to be sure i've got it straight.
>>>> I kept the controller to the left to keep it away from the transfer case lever. It actually made drilling the holes more of a pita, but i'm happy with the position. The elongated hole was a result of the clearance between the back of the bin being too close to the pop-out section of the hvac duct (white plastic). Elongating the hole gave me access to the area to the left of the duct, and the harness was more free to move during installation and removal of the controller.
no guarantees, but do you think that if i stay over to the left and dremmel only through the thickness of the cubby hole material that i'd be ok?
>>>> definitely stay left, and be really careful, as there is not a ton of room behind there for errant dremmel bits. I would not worry too much about pulling off the plastic, as none of the clips were damaged after i pulled all the covers off.
hope there are no what's-inside-the-center-stack differences between your 2011 sr5 and the 2012 te. Ya just never know. Anyhow, that's the plan. And btw, according to etrailer.com, the standard controller ground wire in the factory wiring isn't heavy enough for a good ground, so they actually have a separate ground pigtail coming out of the connector harness that's supposed to be grounded to something under the dash.
>>>> yes, i grounded it to an existing bolt under the dash.
