A-Ha's Build.

Finally got around to snapping some photo's of the Clazzio's for you guys!

Oooooooo ! Those are nice ! Guessing since you're hangin' out in balmy NC that you did not opt for the seat heaters ... ? That would be first priority for me :smow:

lol My limited has seat warmers so I always have warm butt cheeks when its cold. but they don't get used much in the summer unless i'm jokin around with someone in the truck.

Really diggin' those Clazzios.. They've been on my eBay 'Watch List' for over two years now... Maybe I should just order em... :yield:

Do you have more detail pictures of the rear camera mounting? I was thinking about doing the same thing but afraid to drill into the spoiler. Did you use screws or double sided tape?

I can post some more photo's for you this evening. I used screws and double sided tape. I used the double sided tape to form somewhat of a gasket for the holes the screws would make. The camera I received came with both the screws and the tape.

I didn't mount it to the spoiler though I mounted it just under the spoiler right above the window seal of the back window. hope this helps a little until i can get more pictures up for you

Just a few updates, the weekend before last I took the time to pull the third member not sure now maybe the 4th or 5th time to fix an air leak in copper line that engages the locker. These are the pics of what it looked like after i got it out. If you look back at my older pics you can see the TJM style actuator design definitely prevented any air line issues compared to the ARB setup I hate my housing wouldn't allow for proper fitment of the TJM...

The copper line had been rubbing the side of the carrier oddly enough though still held enough pressure to keep the locker engaged, the compressor just had to keep cutting on an off to keep up with it.

I used map gas and brazing rod to close up the leak and re routed the line again to take another chance that the line is out of harms way as you can't inspect the line after install at all. so far so good no leaks and proper engagement and release. ready to go for good this time hopefully (fingers crossed)

This weekend I Cleaned the ever living mess out of my truck. Well in other words found all the scratches and paint gouges haha. Also touched up the paint on my sliders from last seasons carnage. All in all just getting things ready for another year of fun off-road!

IMG_2534 (1024x768).jpg

I ordered the 3.5in All Pro off-road lift coils as I noticed while pulling out my third member for the umpteenth time that when my axle was at full droop there was about a 1 1/2" - 2" clearance between the top of the rear coil and the spring bucket. Basically I could remove the coils without disconnecting the shocks, sway bar, or any other linkages. Back when I ordered the radflo rear extended travel setup they didn't have springs with there closeout sale. So they recommended theses coils. I'll be installing these next weekend with a 1.5" spacer on the driver side to get rid of the driver lean as well. thanks to superman for the extra rear spacer he had laying around :high5:

durring install I'll be able to post a compare pic of the heavy duty rear OME springs to these for anyone that may be currious... with that said as well after install of these coils I will have a complete rear lift setup from OME shocks and springs for anyone interested you can shoot me a PM. They will be just chilling around for someone that needs them.

Finally, to add to the update you can clearly see its time for new tires... I have three options in mind and thought I might gather your thoughts. The next post will have pics of the three different tires I'm considering. certainly interested to hear any opinions of them.

The Pitbull Rocker LT radial m/t size would be 33x13.50
Pitbull Rocker radial reviews - JeepForum.com
Mike green, the owner of pitbull told me that "they were getting 40,000 miles out of their bias tires. He said to expect another 5,000 miles with the radials. Maybe more. hmm....
Rocker-LT-Radial.jpg

The Mickey Thomson baja claw m/t size would be 305/70/16
baja_claw_ttc_radial.jpg

Bias ply design not really good for a on and off-road vehicle. :pout: : images.jpg

or stay with what I have..
baja_mtz_trad.jpg

not worried about mpg's, longevity, or noise concerns. looking for lots of grip and a sexy looking tire not seen on most 4runners  certainly interested in your thoughts

My vote is for the Baja Claw! One of the best looking/traction getting tires out there.

Are you sure they still make those Parnelli Jones tires? I remember NTW was having a selling out clearance on them a couple years back and that's the only place I've ever seen em for sale. edit - yep out of production - http://www.desertrat.com/categories/?id=4209

The pitbulls look like good tires for off roading as well, but I've read that you may as well get boggers or mud graps if you're buying rockers. I've read they ride just as bad and loud but don't grip as well. I know the MTs aren't exactly street tires but they aren't as open as the rockers. Yes I said read twice, so obviously I have no experience just advice from the magazines, interwebz, and other sources.

Why no swampers on the list? I haven't seen swampers on a 4R and god knows they're grippy and sexy, especially a set of 33x15.50s.

Looking good brother! I did the same thing this weekend. Touched up my exhaust, under-body, tow receiver, bumper, and sliders from all the carnage we've caused this past year. Ready to do it all over again!

My vote, is probably for the Claws... But I'm very interested in the Pit Bulls... Hmm...

Not certain they still make the PJ I've read that they were sold out and I've read you can order them so I figured I'd inquire a special order for them for purchase if i go that rout. edit: read your edit, it still seems as if certain sizes are available here and there perhaps a special order would find them but it probably wouldnt be wise to purchase a tire I can't replace if one was to get slashed.. guess that ones probably off the list now..

I've read the rockers ride considerably better noise wise than boggers or any IROC tire like swampers or tsl's but not to say they arn't loud lol also the rockers interested me a little more so than the IROC tires because of this (quoted from pitbull) "Construction/rubber designed using Tear It Up™ Technology - what's Tear It Up™ Technology? You can't tell from looking at our tires. It's our secret on why our tires are so cut resistant, puncture resistant and heat resistant. Which translates into a longer lasting tire providing many hours of hassle-free Off-Road pleasure. "

I've read several testimonies about them winning king of the hammers as well as (randomly enough as most desert racers run more of an all terrain) that they've made it to BITD Parker 425. So the fact that they've become a versatile tire among different divisions of off-road racing certainly interests me. (am i a racer no lol but they do seem to be a bad ass tire. I mean who has lightning bolts on the side lugs of there tires haha)

I've known the IROC tires to get cut up pretty bad on the rocky trails at Uhwarrie and well as from experience the MTZ's by mickey thomson cut up very easily. Also the IROC reviews on traction in rocks are not very positive they certainly appear to be a mug boggers choice than rock crawling I can't back this up just have read about them. I've also noted extremely low longevity from friends that have TSL's and Super swampers unfortunately I have no way of comparing this to the pitbulls other than reviews which are mainly only listed right after purchase.

I really can't say anything bad about the Claws other than it being a directional tire, the longevity is comparable to just about any other mud tire coming in around 25-30,000 miles as well they're considerably more quiet than the rockers haha.

It would be nice if you could try on tires like shoes drive around with them a bit to see if you like them lol I've been leaning on the claws since I purchased the MTZ's. It's just come to that time to purchase so I'm looking through all the options its a crazy hard decision well atleast I'm making it difficult haha.

OHP I finally had some time this weekend to get to that back up camera! I mounted it in the location we had talked about and just ran the wiring through the window seal. Then through the existing factory grommet. At first the image came in upside down lol; however, i found I could reverse the mounting bracket on the camera portion.

Mounted center under the rear spoiler

Thanks again OHP for an awesome secret Santa gift!

Lookin' good! Look like they fit nice for "seat covers"

Is that a Glock?

Switched out OME 897's for Allpro 3.5's

Switch out my OME springs for some all pro's the free height of the OME's was 15.375 the all pro's came in at 16.25". My before numbers on height from ground to base of rear fender across the center of the rear tires were
Driver: 41 3/4"
passenger: 42 1/4"

after switching springs as well as adding a daystar 1.5" spacer to the driver side my after measurements are
driver: 42.625
passenger: 42.625
No more driver lean!! woot woot! and no more loose coils at full flex. the ride seems a little softer but not by much definitely happy with the all pro's.

Just some comparison shots of the springs first pic is the OME next to the Allpro. and just for interest The second pic shows the comparison between stock springs and the OME.

Wow ! some great progress on the rig.

I don't think I've ever seen your rig that clean; I always thought it was "Off-White" :tape:

Tough choice choice for tires. I would advocate for skinny but that's not "sexy" :biggrin2:

So Austin, why was it that you couldn't square away the TJM locker. Something about the housing?

Thanks man! yeah I'm still sleeping on the tire decision no real rush just gotta figure out what I want the most. but to answer your question and ad a little info on the subject here you go:

the Item circled in red was pressing against...
IMG_2157 (1024x768).jpg

this area of the axle housing circled in red..
IMG_2144 (768x1024).jpg

even though they're no dents or damages to the housing its a standard housing that this locker was designed for
IMG_2149 (1024x768).jpg

but the issue itself was due to the solenoid being pressed into the housing it caused the area of the solenoid (being pointed to w/ red arrow) to bind against the section of the carrier zig-zag'd in red. The blue arrow points to the collar that slides back and forth (smaller arrow indicating motion) to engage and disengage the locker. with the red areas bound up the locker wouldn't unlock until the third member was pulled out to relieve the pressure on the solenoid.
IMG_2151 (1024x768).jpg

but notice how nice of a design it is for the functionality compared to the ARB's air line setup, you can see by the mark in the housing it's well away from the gear oil and the copper line only has to make two bends to connect to the housing fitting, completely out of the ring gears harm. completely eliminating the chance of oil entering the air line which can lead to other issues of engaging the locker.

So.... I'm thinking that I may cut away the stock diff cover on the back side of the diff housing and weld on something a little roomier. That would square away any tolerance issues yeah ?

Sounds to me like you would prefer the TJM if it fit.

That's an option, and likely I could have taken a hammer and beat out the area that the solenoid interfered with enough to make it clear. The housing lacked maybe a half inch in just a small 1in diameter area as shown in the pic. After spending the amount of money I did though I felt I shouldn't have to deal with that it should fit like it was designed to lol. So I swapped it out for the ARB. Had I paid a bit more attention to the install of the ARB the first time I wouldn't have run into the leak issue i did. Instead of ensuring the copper air line was routed properly I just assumed ECGS had the line placed where it would work (bad assumption lol). The ARB is working just as good as the TJM would have so I'd stand behind either carrier as being top notch.

as far as which carrier is better, I think its a toss up there both made extremely strong. Their only differences are the design in which they use to engage the locker. The TJM setup just seems to be "better" in the since its nearly impossible for gear oil to enter their solenoid setup, plus no special carrier bearing needed to pass a copper line through like the ARB requires.

The ARB uses a bit better bulkhead fitting setup to connect the small blue air line to the out side of the housing with just a farel fitting, and the TJM has a bulk head setup that sets up for a 1/4" rubber hose and hose clamp to attach to a bulky hose barb fitting for air.

which ever one you decide to go with; however, just be sure to double check the install a few times before buttoning everything up. Its hard to do so though since its a third member setup you don't have the hogs head cover to open and inspect everything.
