So I had a buddy get his mercury stuck in a mud trail behind some manufacturing plants in Indian trail down the road from my town...

In the picture above you are looking at a GEO tracker, it was one of the red neck guy's vehicle. He was trying to get to my buddy's mercury maraino or however you spell it. My buddy's vehicle is in front of the geo. Someone with a tractor had pulled the Geo out before I got there. The tractor got stuck going back in to get to my friends vehicle. Someone with a Colorado was able to assist the tractor out. After their attempts they were leaving it up to me lol


He called me up, as I was the only person he knew with a truck capable of getting to him. (how he got as far as he did I'll never know a lot of liquid confidence and a little bit of throttle i suppose..)

I got to the trail, guided by the red neck dumb ass friends of his that lead him down there. They told me oh yeah you'll be able to turn around once you get to him...


Got a little stuck attempting to cross over the ruts and turn the truck around to yank him out. I used a come-a-long to hook to my rear hitch and pulled the ass end back into the ruts, allowing me to back out (the entire mud trail there wasn't anywhere you could turn around...) Got back to an area I could turn around. Determined to get my buddy out and away from these crazy red necks I reversed all the way back up to him through the bog.

Hooked up two snatch straps (luckily this "suv" had a trailer hitch) to my buddy's mercury. One yank to get him out of the ruts backed up about 6 feet and hammered down dragging that geo looking SUV all the way out of the trail

showed up to work looking like this, this morning.

I don't think I've ever seen your rig that clean; I always thought it was "Off-White"

Tough choice choice for tires.

I now see why you never see my truck that clean [MENTION=77955]jdkilroy[/MENTION] and I seriously need some wide tires with the messes such as these I get into lol. Had I had some of those Rockers or at least a new net of MTZ's (or some of superman's mud graps lol) I probably wouldn't have gotten stuck at all lol.

Just sharing my Monday afternoon adventure hope you all enjoy. As with all adventures no one ever gets the pics of the good shit like me dragging this thing backwards through that boggy ass trail..

clean your rad

Austin, I am sure you know but you may want to make sure you hose down your radiator real good to get the mud off! It can actually make you over heat when it gets caked or mud build up, just let the hose run over it at normal pressure for a good 20 minutes both sides and you will see alll the crap or good ol Carolina mud wash away. I even let mine soak with some Simple Green b4 for 5 10 minutes then hose it off.

yep had it over heat a while back on the way home from winning a mud bog competition. planned on doing that this evening and pressure washing some mud off. the thermostat is reading normal so I don't think this event caked the radiator much though.

that's just what they quoted they price match I believe so I'm fairly certain I can get the price down. just considering a more aggressive tire at the moment

the set I have now I paid just at 1k after taxes mount balanced out the door

post #110 is about my tire choices I'm considering. I'm really interested in the pitbull Rockers. they offer a 315/75/R16 but with the off-roading and articulation I do achieve off-road they wouldn't fit very well in the front without some major trimming. as well as (from what I've researched) welding turn stops onto the lower control arm to prevent the tire from getting into the frame. Also discount quoted those at just over 2000 dollars after shipping from st. Louis mount balance and taxes. which is crazy high dollar lol. I will say the owner of pitbull rated that tire at 45,000 miles whether that's a sales pitch while I inquired with him about them or not. It would be interesting to put them to the test. I was told the 33x13.50 is no longer in production.

I like the claws bias ply aggressiveness but I'm not thrilled of the directional tire idea, as well the radial Claw design is less aggressive than the MTZ lol.

I'm geared for 35's so I've been looking into what it takes to fit them in the front. That's mainly what I've been considering, Stick with what i have that I know works or do some fab work to make 35's fit that would just make the truck more bad ass lol.

What about Pro Comp X-Terrains? They make a D rated 305/70R16. They're more aggressive than the MTZ's I think. I use to have 315's in those. They grabbed every crevice in the road but they still road well lol. Only thing I don't like about them is their Tread Depth when new.

I've looked at those and the maxxis treppedor which are mostly identical. Like the dick cepek Mud terrain looks like Mickey Thompson's MTZ's. I've also looked at all of the "super swamper" options as well and really can't find a tire I like the look of better than the Pitbull Rockers or compare's to the quality of the pitbull rockers tire either.

I've looked at Mud graps too. I'm just letting it all digest in my head until a decision presents itself. I'm typically quick to make decisions then wind up wishing I had waited or researched a little more. I'm sure I'll come to a decision in the next week or so or blow a tire one and become forced into a decision lol. If parnelli Jones still made there dirt grips I'd be all over them no questions I've got one as a spare that has god knows how many miles on it on and off road before I owned it, sat in a field of grave yard used tires available at a local off-road shop, on top of all of that abuse was then purchased by me to run with a set of three other different brands of the same size tire for about 6k on road miles. It might be at half tread or just a little less and I wouldnt think twice about putting 10,000-20,000 miles on it if i had three others to match it. but unfortunately its no longer in production...

It took me almost a month to make my final decision. Also b/c I was saving up the money. My main concern when looking was actual tire width. I didn't want anything too wide that would give me any troubles with the UCA's and rub when turned/flexed. But, I also wanted a good tire with good appearance and + reviews. It came down to the MTZ's and the SS IROK Non Directional's. I still may end up getting the IROK's when the MTZ's die, but we'll see.

Only help I can contribute is make sure to look at actual numbers on manufacture's websites. This will put any questions at rest like actual width and height as well as if the dealer has the right info on the tire like tread depth and ply rating. I made an Excel spreadsheet when I was researching, helped a lot.

Those are the main "super swamper" type tires I have been admiring. There costly though. Knowing I'll only see 20-30k miles out of them I have to keep my budget under 1500 to even be close to reasonable lol. Now if I were putting tires on a tube buggy I'd have those IROK's all day bias ply lol.

that might not be a bad idea, I have been looking at all the MFG numbers on there web pages but i've not written them down to compare across the board, only compared two tires at a time side by side number wise. Thanks for the spreadsheet idea I hadn't really thought of that. I just see big sexy tires and say shut up and take my money! oh wait gotta see if they'll fit first haha

I'm running an inch an a qaurter BL now with plenty of lift to fit 35's

its the flexing that causes the issue and I need to flex not flip :crazy: lol

Ah I see. For some reason I thought you didn't have a body lift. I saw a 4th gen once that had 35's and no BL so that's my goal. You should definitely step up to 35's, they're just so much more epic.

Glad you like it and finally got it installed. I did mine a couple of weeks ago and installed the camera by the trailer plug. I'm not satisfied with that location so at some point I'll move it up to the spoiler.
By the way, the clazzios look bad ass.

I have to throw it out there having that back up cam up there under the spoiler has worked out great! When I was reversing through that mud trail to get my buddy out I was throwing waves of mud on the mirrors, windows, and windshield. That cam kept me on the trail and out of the trees!
