I have a '15 TRDP, and it updated over the air when linked to my iphone automatically.

That's just the app update, not the firmware...

That was the link they sent my in an update email I received directly from Toyota.

So I'm trying to update my 4R Entune.

Have copied the necessary file (swdl.iso) to 2 different USB drives. Neither one is working as I follow the instructions provided by Toyota.

What's baffling me is that I've used both of these for updating my Custom Startup Screen / Custom Shutdown Screen...so I know the 4R can read 'em...

Has anyone else tried to update, but run in to this issue?? Worse case, I can take it to my dealer and have them update it for me.

I used a smaller thumb drive 4gb, formatted FAT32. I had zero issues.

I think those of us that have 2014+ need to use other instructions. These appear to be for 2010-2013 model. Those of us complaining that this update didn't work (mine too on both of our 4Runners) all have 2014+ models in our sigs.

Correct. The link I posted was for my 2013 Trail with Entune + Navigation. I do not know if there are different version or model specific emails.

I am taking a stab in the dark here but I would imagine you would have received and email from Toyota if you have registered your trucks with:

Toyota Owners Official Web Site

So they obviously know what vehicle/system you have and whom to contact. Like I said just a guess.

Most people having issues with this update either for not using BLANK USB device or not unziping (decompressing) firmware files.

The Entune update in this thread is specific for 2012-2013 models. (2010 and 2011 models Entune was not available as an option).

Have you spoken to anyone at Toyota support about what you would need to download 5.1 freeware... there's got to be a way to do it(?)!

...and thanks for sharing your experience with all of us; even if your experience hasn't been a great one... that's what were're all here for, to help each other get our truck's entune systems working 'As they should!'

Last night I downloaded the 5.1 link into a Fresh 8GB flash-drive and it seemed to load the way it did in the instructions on the Toyota Entune support page. Today (with fingers crossed), I got in the truck and started it, plugged the flash-drive into the usb and watched:










...Then I exhaled... it worked! So glad that part is done. Now I'm hoping that some of the glitches will be gone; time will tell! Tonight I'll do some research on the 2014 and 2015 4Runner entune systems to find out what downloads we need to get the other members here ( [MENTION=40116]ryanbt[/MENTION], [MENTION=112332]USKTog[/MENTION], [MENTION=103267]Saker[/MENTION], [MENTION=105481]3wbdriver[/MENTION]...) up and running. To those of you driving a 2015 truck...

Are you sure that you aren't already running the 5.1 version of Entune? That was one of the things that I keep coming across while searching for a reason for the problem. And, when you downloaded the https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2191949/swdl.iso file, clicked on 'open when done', inserted your new (reformatted) flash-drive (F-drive)... was there a prompt asking: send to>. Did you see the file transfer to your f-drive... processing...? Just making sure you saw all of these steps; please don't be offended... not condescending, just double checking! ...I'm sure we'll get it figured out!

9. My Multimedia Unit gave an error message.

Recheck to confirm that the file downloaded was for the multimedia (audio) system that your vehicle is equipped with. If you have the correct file on the USB flash drive, are performing an Operating System update, and receive “The new software could not be read, Please check that the disc or USB flash drive contains the correct software” as an error message, your vehicle may actually already have the latest software installed, and there would be no need to proceed with the software update.

If your multimedia unit still produces an error message, please see your local Toyota dealership. You may also contact the Toyota Customer Experience Center for instructions at 800-331-4331, Monday-Friday 5am-6pm, Saturday: 7am-4pm PST.

After checking online for differences between a 2014-2015 headunits "Entune Navi" and a 2013 HU w/navi... I really cannot find a definitive 'Build change'. Even the sm at the dealership yesterday said that: "...Toyota has been installing the 5.1 entune software vers in the 2015's for a couple months now, and now they're telling us to go ahead and start installing it into ALL of our customers cars w/Entune.... we've been doing it for a couple wks and so far... no problems!"

Did the O.S. update from 3.2 to the 5.0 or just the apps; that's normal for the apps to 'Auto-update', just like your phone!

I'm beginning to think maybe I have a basic version of Entune that doesn't fit this upgrade anyway. The only apps mine has besides the basic stuff are weather and traffic, neither of which even work in my rural area due to lack of digital signals. I do remember downloading the app to my iPhone last year and then deleting it because most of the features either wouldn't work with my radio or were apps I wouldn't use. More research is necessary in my case.

Suggestion... Try pulling the 30A Amplifier fuse; 'located in the main relay/fusebox under the hood'. It needs to be removed until that circuit drains... e.g., 3 to 4 hrs 'just to be certain'! This will boot the head-unit's hard drive (processor) and delete any data that may be corrupted. I'm convinced that your hu is just like mine and all the others! I looked at some brand new 2015 limited trucks with the HD-XM audio systems (now labeled JBL, w/no real change) and they're receiving the 5.1 OS.

PS: You can still use the truck during this procedure but the hu won't work! Best

The best way to know if the hu rebooted is, the Options>>>Sound settings e.g., bass, mid, treble, will go back to the zero mark; i.e., center screen.

I tried this on my 2015 limited. No luck as well. I think it may be possible this is only pre 2014 update. I also tried going to general settings->software update. With USB inserted software update button is greyed out/not available. If anyone manages to get this going on 2014-15 please share your experience. It is possible our version is already upto date.

Will I lose any other updates that were done to the HU previously?
Also, will I have to reprogram anything other than the stereo sound balance config, i.e.:stations ?

Entune update to 5.1

Does anyone know if this update (5.1) effects or improves anything in the navagation part of the entune system on an early 2014 SR5 built in Sept 2014?
