Hey barryhiram,
Last September I learned that there was an O.S. update (5.1) that was said to resolve many of the issues that My truck was having e.g., trouble with the audio system playlist/track advance & back buttons inoperative, daily phone BT pairing, connectivity issues... etc! So I dropped in the update (swdl.iso) and all of those issues, after three years, miraculously disappeared! So now there's a newer (swdl.iso 5.2) update.
(Question:) Why did you become interested in this update; were you having issues with the phone, the audio system, navi system... or did you swap out the O.S. software as a precautionary measure or because it was available? Also, has anything changed resulting from the update? I'm just trying to decide if I have reason to refresh the software or "to leave well enough alone"... after all it is working just as it should now (knock on wood)! Thanks bro!
"Best to you"!
Morning Greg,
"Knock on wood" I've never experienced any of the issues you have. Typically (like PC's) when firmware updates are released I update to take advantage of any improvements........kind of being pro active.
Your question, should I or shouldn't I update, wish I could suggest one way or another but without knowing what's been changed, I wouldn't even try.
Do you still have a copy of update 5.1.0? If so, and you decide to update to 5.2 and it doesn't work, you could always revert back to 5.1
Good luck which ever way you decide.
Cheers buddy!
Thanks Barry,
Something inside of me says: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"! That's always worked for me! ...plus i'm lazy and don't want to make a repair if I don't have to! Now if you would have said... Oh man, you gotta get this update rig...!" then I'm there! But not without monumental changes on the horizon lol!
Thanks Barry!
I've got the most updated software on mine, but it crashes frequently. Dealer will order new head unit if I would like.
Just a heads up that I think there is an update for 2016 models (at least it was new to me). However I don't think the instructions in this thread are applicable.
It is version 010182.
We really need a consolidated thread about Entune versions by year/model as the information is really hard to find. Calling Entune support is comical and was largely useless for me.
I'd try create the thread, but I don't have enough posts.
Here's the real kicker though. The service rep informed me that the securedp.toyota.com website that everyone uses to download the software is NOT a real Toyota site. Can anyone confirm or deny that? Does anyone happen to have anything official from Toyota (an email or something) they can share where Toyota says to use that site to download updates?
this is a stab in the dark, but i've read elsewhere that a smaller capacity usb drive helps (< 2GB) and that it's not SanDisk brand. Worth a shot before you fork over $700!Thanks to those who replied. I'm stuck between a rock and a bigger rock here because it sounds like the service department at the dealership doesn't know WTF they're talking about, and Toyota Customer Care basically told me to go pound sand on the bricked control module. I spent an hour on the phone with Customer Care fending off a loooong list of ways the rep was trying to weasel out of actually doing anything to help me and trying to put the blame on me. It would have been insulting if it weren't so infuriating. In the end the rep basically told me there's probably not much she can do to help me out with the $700 replacement of the control module because I "don't have a record of brand loyalty to Toyota". Meaning, it's the first Toyota I've ever purchased, I purchased it from a private party (i.e. not from directly from a Toyota dealer), and I only have a single service record in the few months I've owned it. In other words, since I haven't given enough money to Toyota yet, they're not really interested in helping me. Nice. All I know is that I performed a Toyota-recommended update, using software downloaded from Toyota's website, and now I'm facing a $700 repair bill because of it.
