A Quick question about 5100's

So I installed my daystar 2.5/1.5 kit and found my drivers front shock was leaking. So now I have 4 5100's siting in my truck awaiting install.

My question is do I leave the daystar kit in and set the 5100's to 0 or do I take the Daystar out and set the 5100's to 2.5?

This is quite a conundrum to me so I'm here looking for some feed back.

I would remove the DS spacer and move the spring mount to the 2.5 position.

don't want to steal your thread but i got a similar question.

Nope. You can raise the fronts to the middle position and that should eliminate the rake. If you go to the hi position in the front you can add 1.5" poly spring spacers in the back.

So how will the ride be affected by removing the spacers and just using the Blistein 2.5 lift will the shock be stiffer than the spacer or will the spacer be stiffer?
Thanks Maineiac:hunter:

Thanks very much for this info.. now I can order my struts sooner..

It will be stiffer because you have increased the spring pre-load, which has the same effect as going to a stiffer spring. Maybe it's good, maybe it's bad, try it and see. I think I would not go to the highest position on the shock, maybe the first or second and retain the spacer if you want the extra lift.

The issue with using spacers on top of the 5100's is that you've now changed the location of the shock (remember 5100's are longer than stock). When at full extension, it will be further down than before and cause greater angles on the suspension. Also you could run into issues at full compression. A small spacer (1/4"-1/2") shouldn't affect too much, but I wouldn't suggest more than than.

If you put 5100's on the rear are they height adjustable too? Or just the front?

Also what is the best place to buy them and how much should I expect to pay to replace all 4 shocks.

Also I won't have to change any spring or anything on the front or rear replacing shocks right? Even if I lift them in the front a little.

same issue, leaking strut and now four 5100s

I had the same issue that you did, Maineiac. Bought Daystar kit, went to install it and found leaking front strut. Bought all four 5100s and Fj coils. The ride with the Billies is way better than the oe. Used the daystar rear spacer and set the front to 1.75.( or 2.5 with stock springs). Hope this helps
