A serious question… how to get rid of KDSS dummy light?

Some of you are aware of my feelings towards the KDSS system, others are not….

Anywho, I haven't had the KDSS sway bar pistons attached for over a year and a half now so I decided to detach them and store them in case I ever do decide to re-attach the system. I popped the pistons off the mounts, took the hoses off and sealed them up, then pulled the KDSS fuse. I knew the "KDSS" dash warning light would come on, but for some reason I was hoping it wouldn't… Bottom line, the light is on and I am wondering how to get rid of it. Anyone have any ideas? TIS Techstream??? A jumper somewhere??? some of you guys are good at this stuff so I figured I would ask.

Where is the light?

Dave used a little bit of electrical tape to cover the seatbelt light. Once the tinted cover is back on you can't see anything.

Don't get any easier (or unmolested) than that!

I've seen it in person- the plastic cover is tinted dark enough so you can't see it when it's back together.

Cool, I'm surprised no one here has made a thread about that genius tape mod yet then.

And I am assuming the OP when he posted this, was looking for a better solution on making the light go out.

I would pull the dash and de-solder the LED from the board. If it turned out that was going to be difficult, I'd do the tape mod above.

Thanks for posting that, I was looking for that thread yesterday and couldn't find it. I wonder how hard it is to get to the little LED behind the cluster… I am thinking hard which is why the tape method was used here.

Obviously some trucks come without KDSS and some come with… I was hoping there was something in Techstream that I could use to just "turn off" the KDSS system, like the truck never had it. Wishful thinking though.

The Tape was just going to be a temp solution until I had more time but after a few weeks I actually forgot it's there. It's now been there for years. Every now and then the sunlight will hit it a certain way where you can see the outline but for 99% of the time it really is invisible.

I removed the rear ram completely and I am also getting intermittent lights coming on. I thought about pulling the fuse but figured it would for sure trigger a light. I'm going to cheat and send it to the dealer and I'll try to get the secret from them and post it.

Forgot to mention, I pulled the fuse as well. Had no effect on the dummy light. It was on before and still on after.

I believe we are probably the only 2 dudes in the world to rip a "perfectly good" KDSS system off these trucks. But oh how sweet it drives with good suspension in the place of it.

Same here. Actually my only regret with this truck... I wanted the Trail Edition and the only ones popping up at any of the dealerships around here all had KDSS... had I known I probably would have gone with a SR5. Live and learn.

Back in the day, tape over the check engine light may have been one of the most popular "mods" around on VW Vortex. One Jetta I had did almost 200k with that damn light on.

If you desire more travel alotted by some after market suspension setups (i.e. Metal Tech Long Travel rear), the KDSS swaybar will be the limiting factor. This is the same with any sway bar really. With KDSS, however, it is a more in-depth process to remove the swaybar since hydraulic cylinders are utilized.

So, as SOcalTRAIL said, there is nothing wrong with KDSS, but if you want more suspension travel, it has to be removed. Upon removal, you may run into dash light issues hence the reason for this thread.
