That’s the most intense off roading I’ve seen of a totally stock SR5. I’m impressed. We always see these off-the-lot tests of the TRDP and OR but never the “lowly” SR5. It’s absolutely impressive what Atrac system will do. Great video!!!!
I’m always impressed how good crap highway tires can do off road.
I have a friend who just bought a 4R and I’m pushing him to go out with us before he mods it for this very reason. These trucks are incredibly capable right off the lot. A-Trac has got me out of every bad situation I’ve got myself into except for 2 where I slid into super deep ruts where no other trim could have kept me from bottoming out.

I have thrown away lots of money over the years buying 4x4’s with all the off-roading gadgets. I have learned that for the majority of guys that like to do some casual off roading, all you need is ATrac.
I have had lockers, never needed them with atrac. Atrac is amazing, if you have some skill off road, it will get you wherever you need to go.
I did not know people looked down on the SR5. If that is true, that is pathetic. I purchased my SR5 because I have learned after years of hitting trails that it is equiped with everything I need to get to the places I like to go.

I've crossed the Mojave Desert, wandered Death Valley, explored most of Big Bend - All in a completely stock SR5. Of course I love the mods I have added, but unless you are climbing rock faces (why would you do this in a new car anyway), the mods are mostly just for appearance and fun.

Not so much impressed by the SR5 as I am the driver. Well done working with what you've got.
A ton of wheelspin and momentum would have gotten a Subaru up most of those obstacles, though. Perfect advertisement for lockers. With lockers, each of those obstacles would have required a lot less punishment on the truck.

I think if you got a heat gun and slowly heated up the SR5 emblem you can take it off and add a TRD Pro emblem. I am sure you can probably get a hood with a scoop too at a junkyard for fairly cheap. Then you are just as capable as a TRD OR or Pro and also look like you paid more for it.

Between you and that complete tool yellowsnow, this is getting old.
NO ONE ever, ever said that an SR5 is "just as capable". That would be a completely idiotic and uneducated statement. Of course a locker, crawl control, and multi terrain select make it more capable.
The question is, do you need that? For me, 4lo and ATRAC combined with my ATs have handled everything beautifully. I have maxtrax on my roof rack and have never actually needed them to recover myself, used them for others.

I’m quoting myself because I may have started this SR5 is not as holy as though thing.
I don’t think the SR5 is looked down upon as being the red headed step child of the lineup. If anything, it’s the Limited to me with all the low hanging plastics and 20” wheels.
I chose the SR5 because I’m a purest and love the simplicity of the system. I was just saying that I’m happy to see someone show how capable the SR5 is in stock form. I ALWAYS see these off road tests with top trims and all the bells and whistles.
Lastly, nothing that I saw there was him beating on the truck. Sure, the other off road goodies would make it easier but he was far from pushing the truck to its limits. It doesn’t matter how you get to the top of the hill...as long as you get there.

I’m curious as well...I always thought the Limited was the Subaru for Soccer Moms, AWD 4 Runner edition.
