More Information for AAE 3273N has anybody used one of these? seems like a new unit, there is no core charge :shrug: mine is leaking....

i got a rebuilt one off ebay for under $200, but that seems to be a great deal

I would be interested in this rack as well. You should give it a try! Theres also carsteering.com. If I can make a suggestion, dont get a remanufactured rack. I am on my second one now, and both have been junk. I dont have any technical facts for this, but from what Ive read here on the forum our racks dont do well rebuilt. Once certain parts wear out rebuilding the rack is pointless as it will always have issues. Sure there is a chance you will get a decent rack. I mean my rack gets the job done. But it feels terrible. It knocks, feels loose and sloppy, bounces side to side really easily, etc . . . Your best options are to get a new OEM rack, a used one with lower miles, or try a new one from one of the aftermarket brands.
My steering fluid recently started to leak. I traced it to driver side area right around the cv. It only leaks while the car is on and when the wheels are turned. Anyone know what that might be?
Steering is fine if I keep the fluid full. When it's low, it makes a groaning sound while turning.
Welp, found out it only leaks when I turn the steering wheel left. Would this fix it or is it something I can repair insteald of replace?

The only way to fix the rack is to tear it apart and rebuild it. Toyota doesnt sell internal parts seperately for the rack. These is a company out there that makes a diy rebuild kit, I cant remember the brand though. I think the kit was around $100. But again rebuilding these racks is a bad idea to me. If your rack still works ok you could try some stop leak if you havent already, and just continue refilling it as needed for the time being. The noise you hear comes from the power steering pump when it gets low on fluid. You definately want to keep it full as that could ruin the pump
Yeah, I refill it whenever I hear it and check it daily just to be sure. If steering is still fine, can I just find where the leak is coming from and stop it? Well, what is stop leak?
edit: found out its coming from the driver side boot.

These guys offer a pretty good deal on a reman'd rack, and offer a 3 year warranty. I am not sure anyone has used them before, but it seems pretty legit to me.

had mine for almost a year and it works fine no leaks, but the boots on bolth sides have decayed away and torn.. they sent me new ones tho.

Knowing i will keep my 4runner forever i have a slightly different approach. I buy items like steering racks, cv axles, starters, etc at Oriellys auto parts. There are many locations where i live and the products have a lifetime warranty so 5yrs down the road you just replace it for free. Yes there is the issue of labor to remove and install it if something goes out but ive had good luck with their rack for 3 yrs now. BTW items like coilpacks and important electrical items i go OEM Toyota on. Not saying its the right way but its what ive been doing and has served me well so far.

I found these guys (Safari LTD) advertised in Toyota Trails magazine and contacted them about the rack they offer. This was the reply I recieved from their parts guy...the price on their rack is $495,
Safari LTD is out of Grand Junction, CO. I found this of course after I had bought a rack from another source and paid almost that much money, otherwise I might have given them a try.

After just replacing my entire p/s system, I will go ahead and tell you to go OEM on everything. This is not something you want to mess around with. At first I didnt buy OEM. But after 4 failures and countless trips to the shop, I put all OEM parts on and it runs great now! This is not something to go cheap on. Just my 2c's

In the end you spend more by trying to save money on aftermarket stuff. I am on my second rebuilt OEM rack, and both have been junk. New OEM is the way to go. Or used with low miles

I need a new rack too. You can't get a rebuilt OEM from Toyota anymore. Only option is to get a new Toyota one at $550. That is employee price as well.

This is interesting, so I sent these guys an email today asking for any info thay have about the rack, including the design differences between theirs and the OEM rack.
