About rear sag

01 SR5 new rear springs and shocks
New to me 2001 4Runner with the rear bottoming out. I purchased new rear could and shocks (factory height) and I still hit the center bump stops inside the coil springs. With my two little kids in the back seat and a dog I ride he bump stops. Everything is factory as far as I can tell. Any ideas??? Not really needing a lift right now. Could I have the wrong inner bump stops? Empty I have 1-1.5" between the coil seat and the bump stop. Thanks in advance for any help.

You bought new coils and shocks and you're still bottoming out in the rear?
Very good information on this site, after moving around the country my recall notice never got to me until I read this thread. I've contacted Toyota, given a case number and a dealer to contact. To make a long story short parts are on order and my appointment is next week to do the recall. Original date on recall January 18, 2002 so a month shy of 15 years and Toyota still honors the recall (d@** Good!). BTW, Since this is my first post I'm the original and still the owner of a 1996 SR5 bought brand spanking new back in September 96.
Ive been on the site for years and just seeing this now also!
What info do i have to give dealer?

I gave the dealer the VIN # and they took it from there. Since the recall notice was from Jan 2002, they had to order the parts mentioned in this thread (spring subassy, bumper subassy & spring coil). You may want to contact Toyota's Corporate Office so they may assign you a case number.

Yeah, I called in and gave them my VIN.
Apparently was done in 2004.
Thanks to my older brother I guess, I inherited my 97 from him

Prior to finding this thread on this forum, I had called Toyota and asked about that re-call (same as the one mentioned here) which I found on another toyota website.. and the Service Dept guy told me that you have a time frame window to get it done; which in-turn I was SOL since my vehicle was never maintenanced for this issue.. but after reading these comments looks like my 1996 T4R should be eligible, right??
Update: Just called Corporate and they confirmed there's no expiration date on this re-call and they went ahead and called my local dealership and set up and appointment for the service. Thank God!! I was about to buy all the components to do my rear cuz I've been having some issues with it.. but not anymore..

Merry Christmas, Well I made it to my scheduled appointment. As I was driving I thought about some of the horror stories I've read about waiting and services or lack of services offered by the dealership. As I pulled in the service advisor that met me had a good sense of humor briefed me on the shuttle service, how they had a bistro in the waiting area, wi-fi and if I wanted a free manicure they had someone in the lobby that gave manicures.
The 4Runner and I don't see a whole lot of dealership and it's impressive. The 4Runner didn't stay parked in the receiving bay long at all.
They replaced the rear springs and added the spring boot/cone which I didn't have in the first place. I do have to come back for the replacement bumper assembly because the wrong parts came in. They were done in less than 2 hours. The 4Runner even got a carwash.
For those in LA (Lower Alabama) check out Eastern Shore Toyota, Daphne AL. It was my first time going there.

Took my '96 T4R in yesterday morning and picked it up end of day. The ride is immaculate now.. you can literally feel the difference, just like the person above (wdimson), my vehicle didnt have the spring sub-assy or the bumper sub-assy.. correct me if I'm wrong, but i dont see here on my invoice where they replaced my coil springs. I crawled under the truck when I got home and the coil springs look like the OEM (dirty, paint chipping, etc).

just called my local dealership they said my t4r doesn't have any recalls available even tho the vin is in the recall list

I'm hoping my dealer will replace the springs in accordance w/ the 20A recall. But mine is a 4wd... regardless, if they do, I might get a free sag fix out of the deal as my 4Runner has a very slight driver side sag. :sobbing:
Either way, I'll find out tomorrow if they have the parts on hand or need to order to get everything up to speed from that old recall. I have no proof it was even done, neither do they... so I'm crossing my fingers.

Just read through all 15 pages of this thread with the hope of finding someone that posted up before/after profile pics or measurements. No luck. But I did read several posts where people were happy after the work was done.
So, for anyone out there that has had the dealer perform the recall work, please post up the results.

he has a 92' 4runner 4x4 4cyl. he lives in Baja Mexico where the roads are pretty rough. He wants to replace his stock shocks with some air shocks (both front and rear) but he can only locate sets for the rear. does anyone make a kit for the front?
if not, what would be the best solution for ride comfort over dirt and gravel? he doesn't do any rock crawling or anything like that, just wants a smoother ride when he has to make the trip to town.
suggestions would be appreciated.

Not owning a 4runner from new, can someone post pics of the "sag?"
