About rear sag

I replaced my coil springs with new factory springs and still had a sag. I just installed 1.5" Daystar spacers on the rear and now it sits level. If I had to do it over again, I would not replace the springs because it didn't fix a thing. That little bit of sag has a very negative impact on the ride and handling too. Toyota should correct the problem on all 3rd gens instead of limiting the recall to the first few years. I got the spacers for around $40 and installed them myself so it was an easy, inexpensive fix. Here's a pic with the spacers installed (Sorry, no before & after)

Where'd you get the spacers?
 
i took my runner to red mccombs toyota in s.a., texas and had the recall done on mine. its a 97 sr5 2wd and the recall has never been done. that explains why the price tag was $4,000 even, lol. yeah, you call a legit toyota dealer and read off your vin# and they'll let you know what you wanna know. my truck was born on april 21,1997 in Japan with original 15" rims/tires (225/75/15). the overall rating i give the new springs and bumpstops... "6"! its really starting to bug me again. the first 6 months were gravy but now im feeling a bounce at the rear again (with the sag). new shocks (Rancho 5000) were installed before the recall. so im saving up for some ome on all fours (shocks & coils).

98 2wd Limited

How would I go about getting my 98 Limited 2wd to sit level and maybe not as low as it is sitting right now? Any easy fix? Thanks-

My hats off to shootmymime for posting the letter for the coil recall. I must say, I just walked in the door from the dealership with my new coils at NO charge to me. It did help the sag and bounce in the rear. Thanks again for your help shootmymime.

Is there an aftermarket option? I don't want to put factory springs on because they will just start sagging again. Does anyone know what kind/size I need? Thanks.
 
004 Gunner.....I have a 96 and just found out the rear springs were done in 03....how big is the gap in your wheel well? I am thinking about the 1.5" spacers...just dont want to do it if it dont do no good...ya know? thanks, Garth

I didn't measure the gap between the wheel well and tire. I did just measure the distance between the ground and the bottom of the fender flares though. LF is 34.5", LR is 35.25", RF is 35", and RR is 36". My understanding is that it is normal for there to be a slight variation between the driver side and passenger side although ideally they would match. I do have a subwoofer and 2 amps in my cargo area as well as 3 cases of clay targets, so I'm carrying some extra weight. The spacers worked great for bringing the rear up and I think 2" spacers would be a good choice too.
 
I just changed four of my shocks on my 2K 4R with 153K miles with belstein 2450 and 2451. The problem I have is after installation my front end was raised to about 2" which I wasn't expecting. The rear was okay, height did not changed. Not sure if I've done something wrong or my coil springs were shut after compressing.

Would this dealer fix involve the mechanics having access to the trunk area?
I definitely do not want some jack ass mechanic in the back of my Runner messing around with my stereo set up and screwing up the wiring.
I'd rather take it all out myself, instead of them having to disconnect something and wiring it back wrong.
 
no they do not have to enter your cargo area for any reason. they simply lift the Runner up, take your coils off to insert a coned bump stop, and add some new bump stops over your rear axle at the end of each side. i think i have that down right???

mark a mystery line(s) on your coils before you take it in for the recall. my invoice says bump stops, coil spring assembly, and coil springs. i think they installed my old coils back on.

let us know what happens.

Most definitely will do. I'll give the stealership a call Monday and make the arrangements. Hopefully they will be kind enough and give me a loaner car....
 
they didnt offer me one. they said it would take 3 hrs. so i asked for a shuttle to the Fun Center down the Highway, he laughed. so, me and a friend of mine walked a few miles to the Fun Center only to find out that they didnt open for another hour and a half. we did play a few games but had to start our journey back to Toyota turf.
 
That sucks. I hope they do offer me one, as the only time I can get there is after work and I live about 30 miles from where I would drop off the Runner. And I'm sure that the service department wouldn't stay open longer for me.

I totally agree with you. I have a 2000 4WD and I installed the 99 coils all the way around with new Trek Master Shocks and the rear sags worse now! WTF! Did you notice any negative impacts from your rear spacers? Any strange rattles or noises? God know I have enough of those already I can't pin point.
