Likewise own a 3rd generation (98) with impending butt sag. Was not able to get the customer service letter or the recall info from the forum site. Any chance you could shoot me a msg here or PM with that info as well? Would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you for your consideration!

Replace your rear coil springs with Old Man Emu 891's (model number). I just put them on my 02 and the improvement in ride and handling is great. I had done a 2.5"lift and starting noticing that the rear was slightly lower than the front, due to the saggy springs. I replaced the shocks all the way around, and the new strut shocks on the front lifted it up even more. Then it was suggested to me not to replace the rear shocks unless you replace the rear springs at the same time. So, I bought the rear springs from Old Man Emu ($150 for the pair), and the rear now rises above the front slightly, giving me the profile I wanted. If you don't currently have a lift, make sure you install some spacers on your front at the same time, if you go with the OME rear coils.

WHen I had my new rear coil springs installed, I heard rattles and noises from the rear, but after a day or so of driving, it has disappeared. I had 2.5" spacers, but removed them since the new coils give a 2.5 lift.
What's involved with installing the spacers ?? I'm thinking seriously of doing the same thing to my '02 T4R. Thanks

Very straight forward install. I just had to disconnect the lower shock bolts, the sway bar end links, and the lower end of the lateral control rod to drop the rear and pull the springs out. The spacer just sits on top of the spring and the beehive type bump stop still drops right into the top of the spring too. I did have to use 2 jacks, one for the diff and one to lift at the frame, as well as a long pry bar for the extra 1/2 inch of clearance I needed to get the springs back in with the spacers on.

My install was very simple and straightforward - I paid Sears automotive $75 to install both of them. That included removing the stock springs and Daystar 2.5" spacers, and installing the new OME 891's. Here is how it looks now. By the way, if anyone wants the Daystar 2.5" spacers for their rear coil springs, I will ship them to you pretty cheap. They are not even a year old.

Butt Sag
Hey Guys... same goes for my 01 Runner. the Butt is starting to sag more so on the left side, looking at it from the rear, my runner is tilited to the left. In everyones opinion, what the best thing to do thats wallet friendly, spacers or replace the suspension and coils? And is there a way to make the ride a little softer? let me know, all suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Yes, if you give them your VIN then they should have a record of whether or not the recall was performed on your vehicle.

Great pics Collin! I'm debating over them not fixing mine cuz 1)it rides great 2)if it aint broke don't fix it(atleast on stuff u don't wanna customize) 3)would result in down time and I work 2 jobs = big inconvenience. Plus, look at my avatar pic, there is no sag that I can see! :thumb3:

What did they actually do? From the pic it looks like you've got a new, shorter upper rubber dumper. Anything else?
