I'm looking for 4runners from 06-09 and I found an 08 and I'm going to look at it today. Is there anything I should check for like how in 04-06's you should check for signs of head gasket leaks? Basically I just want some insight on common problems that I can check for, thanks!

It's all over the thread the other member posted, but off the top of my head:
V8: Timing Belt/WP around 90-100k interval
Refreshed V6: Oil leaks around timing covers
Valve cover oil leaks
All 4wd modes engage/disengage
Frame rot
Dash and HVAC lights all functioning
If Xreas, look for leaks
Torn CV boots + suspension bushings
Seized calipers
Maintenance history for plugs, oil and fluids, diffs + transfer case, ATF
Register and run the VIN on any Toyota thru the owner's club to get any dealer services details.
4th Gens are all nearing 10+ yrs or older now. There will be some stuff wrong, but most are DIYable.

03-04 v6 had head gasket failure issues
03-05 v8 didnt have the new VVTI or something so they had less hp then the 06-09 v8's
as long as you limit your search to 06-09 your good
a few notes - the sun roof has a lower headliner so you have less head room (you have to bend your neck when getting in or out)
and as far as i was told, 4wd v8 always stays in 4wd so there is no 2wd option with them

You wrong. About the 2005 model, it has the most HP out of all the models. They had to reduce the horsepower on the 2006-2009 models afterwards. The 2005 v8 model is a special kind of beast with its own issues .

Well, the didn't reduce the power on the newer ones it was found that they were OVERESTIMATING the power on the 2003-2005 engines, thats why the newer ones are rated 'less'
