About to do TB and WP…do all accessory belts too?

I'm finally about to order parts to do the timing belt/water pump. All my accessory belts look good but I don't know when they were last replaced.

Should I just go ahead and spend the time/money and change them or leave them be and spend that money on some other things that I need to do?

The simple answer is this yes and this is why. Book time to do a t-belt and or water pump on a 3.4 is 5 hours of labor off about any book time guide out there. Mitchel, Alldata etc. So, the over lab to do a few belts or a T-Stat because it is in the water pump should all just be done at the same time. Also very important, do the crank seal and cam seals at the same time. The front of the engine is already off so why risk having to pay the labor again if they leak after the job is done.

I know this because I work as a service writer and I just did this in my truck. I did everything at one time so I saved money in labor by doing it all at one time. You catching what I'm throwing. You can use Gates Hoses they are good aftermarket hoses and I used mostly OE parts for everything else. I uses the best Stant T-Stat in my 4Runner it was the same as OE.

One other question….If i'm changing the hydraulic tensioner, do I need to get on the the compressors for the old tensioner? I don't see the point if i'm pulling it out.

No if you are replacing the tensioner you don't need a tool. It comes pre-tensioned with a pin in it. You will need a small wobble socket and long extension, I used 1/4" drive to access the bolts to R&R the tensioner. Otherwise you'll have to take off the a/c bracket.

And I agree, while you're in there, might as well replace the hoses, t-stat, belts. To do the seals is a bit more work so that's up to you. Most wait until the mileage is high unless there's signs of leaking.
