ABS CODE 31 and Sensor Inspection/Replacement Question

Out of the blue I got these lights on the dash:

VSC Off
VSC TRAC
ABS

Did a zero point recalibration. Didn't take.

ABS and VSC TRAC just flashed.

So I jumped the harness and got 2 codes:

VSC 43
ABS 31

31 : Right Front ABS wheel speed sensor fail.

I'm going to go inspect it, shake the harness, clean it with contact cleaner, etc. .

Any tips on doing this? Like am I wasting my time!? Haha!

I bet a bunch of road salt and gunk got in there. I haven't done any work up there in almost a year. Just normal Wisconsin winter driving.

I downloaded the Toyota Service Manual. I'm going to follow their recommendations.

Seems when these things go, you just have to replace them.

I need to check the continuity on the harness and the sensor, but had a question.

Is the sensor on this part (Toyota 89516-60070) ? Or is there another part for the sensor?:

Hey Slowgoat. did you ever resolve your issue here? i have the exact same symptoms. Interested to hear if a new sensor fixed the problem.

I remember hitting a big piece or pile of soft snow right before this started.

It must have damaged the clip where the actual abs sensor and the harness connect down at the front of the lnuckle.

It was coming loose there. I think salt was getting in there and gunking up the connection. I'd have a code 24 hours after driving on the interstate when they'd salt the roads.

I'd spray contact cleaner and do a zero point calibration. It would work until the next snow.

I kept seeing corrosion inside the connection and finally repaired the harness clips with duct tape, and then zip tied it.

Figured if that didn't work I'd replace that part of the abs wire. I forgot about it honestly.

So that temp fix worked. Hope that helps.

Hey. I have same code abs31/vsc43. 31 is for passenger side open circuit. But I have no resistance on drivers side wire harness back to abs module. Both sensors ohm out in spec. Why would the code be for the other side??
