ABS, VSC Trac, and VSC Off lights are all on

Hey folks,
Hoping someone here has encountered this. Today, after stopping to gas up, I noticed that my VSC Trac, VSC off, and ABS lights are all on.

Now, I was just finishing up a 400+ mile drive to visit my sister for Turkey Day. I had been avg about 70-75 mph all day and the truck was running flawlessly. I stopped at the same gas station I normally do near my house as I was nearly empty. I turned off the engine, but left the key in so I could hear the radio. When I started the engine back up, I noticed these three lights continued to stay on.

I got home and let the truck sit for a couple hours hoping a cool down might remedy the situation. No such luck.

So, has anyone encountered these three lights coming on at the same time. The owners manual says I should go to a dealer right away, but I'm pretty sure the only thing I'm missing right now is traction control and ABS functions. Which is fine for the time being, but will make me a little skiddish if the white stuff starts falling.

I know this has happened to a few 5th gen owners. Go and check the fuel cap. Make sure it's tightened completely. Maybe remove it and retighten it. This has usually worked.

If lights are still on check under neath for a torn abs wire. This also could cause these symptoms.

I had this happen two days after I got my 4runner and all it was I needed a new gas cap. It could be you just didn't tighten your cap on all the way after fueling up...or you could need a new one like I did. It's a cheap fix!

My dash lit up like that when I had some bad gas and when my cc went south. It's your rigs way of telling you something in not right. Got to plug it it to find out what ill.

I actually had this happen 2 times on my 4th gen. First time was a bad sensor of some type. The dealer was able to tie this in to some damage from a deer collision so I didnt have to pay for it.

Second time was when my 4runner was overdue for a tuneup...

I was told that the VSC system/indicator lights are somehow tied into emissions. Cant really figure that one out.

its pretty much tellling you you have a check engine light.. most likely evap.. get it scanned and let us know

If it turns out to be the gas cap it may take awhile for the lights to go out, I believe the system needs a few cycles of on and off to reset.

yes it needs to cycle 2 times before it turns off i would estimate about 500 miles or so, matters on your driving style..

When your check engine light goes on, all of those other lights go on so don't worry too much. I've had this happen twice (about 13,000 miles apart from each other). Both times this has happened to me I just disconnected my battery for a few minutes then reconnected it.

My dealer told me that 95% of the time it is just your fuel cap sensor that trips it. If you want all the lights to go off, try disconnecting your battery for a few minutes. This will most likely solve the problem. If the lights come back on after disconnecting the battery, then you probably have a different issue other than the fuel cap.

Remember, after you do this you will have to reset your auto window memory. Just roll your auto windows (driver's window, rear window, and sunroof) all the way down/open while holding the button down and then all the way up/closed while holding the button down to reset the auto memory to those windows.

You should also take your car to the dealer or an auto parts shop to run the diagnostics to see what code it is throwing at you to see if it is something serious or not.

I experienced the same warning lights. Dealer discovered a defective brake switch was the issue. Replaced switch & issue went away

I'm having the same problem every time the temperature drop below 15 F. I have a scanner and I turn the light off and no problem after that..... until the temperature drop again here in New England. I ordered the fuel cap to see if this fix the problem and does light never come back again. Remember if you drive your 4runner with does light on your traction and stability control are off.

I really don't know if that is true or not. I've driven mine in snow, ice, and offroad with both lights on and never noticed any issue with traction or stability and I purposefully was driving it hard to see if I could notice a difference between how it handled with and without the lights on. It would make no sense at all to turn off safety features because your cat is bad or fuel cap needs to be replaced but I guess it's possible.

Guys! These lights pops up whenever your on board computer has abnormal information from the sensors or so. You need to erase the codes by obd reader. There is no way to guess what is causing the problems!!!

Get the codes than ask for a solution

I checked the filler cap, (likely culprit) then I stopped at the dealer and they reset the faults twice but the lights remained on. Dealer mystified! I was in the middle of a trip and it was the weekend so could not immediately get back to the dealer. The lights stayed on for 4 days then went off with no further interventions.

I understand that the VSC and TRAC functions use engine control so the default may be to switch off these functions if an engine fault is detected. However, why can't the fault be reset manually and why does it take so many driving cycles to reset automatically?

Is there a short cut to restore these useful functions?

I have had issues with this as well.

Mine has been the right front wheel speed sensor. It could be anything though. It depends on the codes.

Or did they get the common P0430 code, which could mean a whole bunch of different things (loose gas cap? bad downstream O2 sensor? Blocked cats?)

Unfortunately, I had not read up on the subject at the time so I failed to ask them. They just said they could not reset the fault.
Update 4 weeks later: the same lights reappeared after we did not fill up till almost empty (50 miles range). Bought a new gas cap and 2 days later they went off again. If it happens again, at least I will be better informed when I take it in.

I'm having the exact same issue with a twist. Sometimes when I start the vehicle, all three lights come on and when I attempt to change gear, it won't let me change gear.

I've had the codes scanned, and no codes show up. I was able to get the truck moving by pressing down on the small covered hole that's just ahead of the gear shift.

I've also had my mechanic scan the vehicle for codes and nothing shows. He's doing some research to figure out what is causing this, but I thought I'd ask here as this community is great for resolving issues like this.
