Absalom's 2000 Build Thread

Long time overdue for an update! A few things done lately. Mostly tweaks. I removed the roof rack mainly to
save on fuel and since I've never used it. Got extended sway bar links for the rear. Installed 4.88 and an auto
locker in the rear ... really need to stop being lazy and install the front 4.88.

Swapping gears has saved the truck for me. Before I was growing increasingly frustrated with how sluggish it was.
The constant downshifting on the freeway also grew bothersome. Now ... with 4.88 it's a blast to drive. Torquey
as all get out.

Just took the runner on a 2,500 mile trip over 6 days. Went from Phoenix to LA to Santa Barbara to San Francisco.
Then went all the way to San Diego and into Mexico. Went to Ensenada and San Felipe before finally heading back
home to Phoenix.

The truck performed incredibly. It felt incredibly tight, stable, and responsive on the twisty corners of highway 1. The
suspension is definitely broken in now.

Took it wheeling in Glamis, the Salton Sea, Pismo, and Mexico. Basically beat the crap out of the truck for 6 hard, long
days and it didn't skip a beat. I'm still amazed constantly at how much abuse this truck can take. And then after it all,
drive like a complete angel on the freeway. Tracks straight as an arrow with no vibrations.

(My dog found a fish in the Salton Sea!)

The rattling noise is coming from the disconnected sway bar links.

very nice man. are you concerned at all about the retreads ever coming off? and im diggin the sliders. do you think you could get a side profile of them? like looking straight from the rear fender flare?

im going to switch my dd 99 camry to a 00 4runner and im hoping i can find some sliders that jut out a bit so people dont go banging their doors into mine at my university's parking structure :gun4:

how do you like your treadrites? how many miles are on them? i had a set of 315s with hedge grip:roadkill:

The Treadwrights have been amazing. They didn't like the sand too much tho! Lol. Already know I'm going to buy a second set when these are done.

Hahaha you sold this beauty about 6 months ago didn't you? I know the family that bought it, great people, went to a good home. And now I get to drool over it when I see them :P

No way?! That's awesome. They were really nice. Do they still have it?

I'll never understand how people put so much money & time into their truck & then sell it. It was coming along nicely.

Different people have different circumstances, new jobs with long commute and cant afford 2 vehicles, more room for familys, or maybe just wanting to try something new. Most people end up back in a 4runner anyway, i know absalom is back in one and starting a new build.
