AC Blower Motor Controller Fix

2004 4Runner Limited, V8, 135,000 Miles

Issue: AC / Heater Fan would run intermittently. Weather, time of day, length of drive was a non-issue. The fan would just have a mind of it's own. Also, the blower would made a humming noise.

Troubleshooting: I checked all fuses, swapped relays, and checked all connections. Unplugging and plugging in the connectors worked for about 2 days, then the intermittent issue came back.

Fix: Replace the AC Blower Motor controller

Parts:
Camelback Toyota OEM Part: 8716513010, $149 or
Rockauto, BECK/ARNLEY 2040045 Blower Motor Control Module, $48

Tools: Short Phillips screwdriver and flat head screwdriver (to remove the plugs)

I went with Rockauto.

1. Disconnect the battery, then remove the cover under the passenger side glove box.

2. Unplug the tire pressure sensor (orange box) and set aside.

3. The controller is tucked way back on the left side. You will need a short Phillips screw driver.

4. Last unplug and swap out the controller.

5. While you have the cover removed you may want to remove the blower and check for bugs, dirt, etc and clean it out.

Put everything back in and so far so good. The fan is responsive all speeds and no more noise from the blower.
