AC Blower Motor or Resistor

I have a 2005 TR4 and for the last two weeks my AC will stop blowing air for a day or so and then it start working again. It goes back and forth. I have not had time to check it out yet but I was wondering if this an issue with blower motor itself or the resistor or switch or whatever it is called. Any advice will help? This seems to be something I can myself but how do i know if it is the resistor? Will it show some type of burn marks or some other sign to show it is the reason it is not working.

I had this problem a couple of years ago on my 2003 Sport V8. It turned out to be an air
conditioner relay in the fuse/relay box under the hood. Sometimes it would come on normally and other times it would not work at all.

Check A/C relay first

It's in the fusebox near the battery. Pull it, and give it a smack on a piece of wood, put it back in. If the problem goes away, it was the relay, so get a replacement. They only cost about $25.

If the A/c stops working completely after giving the relay a smack, you hit it too hard... Sorry...

The problem is a sticking magnetic coil that pulls the contacts closed. I had this problem on my 2003 for several years. Found the fix on this forum (smack it) and it's been fine since. I do carry a spare in the glovebox though, just in case it fails for real when it's hot out.

Toyota issued a Technical Service Bulletin (EL011-05) for a problem related to the air conditioning magnetic clutch relay in 02-04 T4Rs.

If your A/C light is flashing, this is a likely cause of an inoperative a/c.

Somewhere in here is a post regarding this same problem. IIRC the foglight relay is the same as the AC. Just swap them and see if the problem goes away.

Good info above on testing the A/C relay.

Good way to check the resistor is that if the resistor is bad, the fan will only work on HI, and (usually) not on other speeds. If it doesn't work at all, it could be the blower fan motor itself.

That same thing happened to me back in the blizzard we had in 2010. My 03 stopped blowing heat, made it a COLD ride into work!

You gotta get under the passenger side of the dash and drop the. Lower motor out. Its up in that area. Part aint cheap but do-able if you do the work.

Like others said, if you ac light is blinking its most likely you ac relay. Fog relay is the same. If your ac light is not blinking and the ac seems to cut in and out, check the sight glass for air bubbles. Air bubbles no bueno!

have any instructions ?? on how to accsess and disassemble the panel to change or just to fix this part ????

Ac not working after replacing blower motor

HI, I've been having the same issue where the air only blows on high. For awhile it stopped blowing completely. I've changed the blower motor twice in three years. The second time, it made the air start blowing again. Also, I replaced the blower motor resistor. Still only blows on high. My mechanic just charged the Freon. It blew cold for a month and now doesn't work again and only blows hot air. There's also been a plastic smell coming from the vents. That smell went away when the AC worked but now is back. My mechanic now wants to replace the entire climate control. I've already spent $1200 on it and seen 4 mechanics over the course of 3 years with this issue and at this point just thinking of getting a new car. What to do?
