AC is cold but not ice cold.

used the AC in the first time today in my SR5, like i said it's cold but not ice cold. 01 with 120k on it. What types of things can I look into? Also, if I use the button by the rear ashtray is that also blowing AC or just regular air?

That is a heater in the rear. Not A/C. They may be the start of the problem.

Get yourself a cheap vent thermometer ($3 or so) and see what the temp is blowing from the front vents.

When you stick a temp gauge in the vent it should read about 45 degrees when its charged fully. Just get the kit from the auto parts store and DIY, don't add more than two cans though on an empty system.

if your going to add freon/r134a I would also add some dye. Doesnt hurt and you can check for leaks with a UV lamp....If the charge doesnt hold and the dye does not help, you can use a nitrogen tank to check some individual components although its not sounding like you have one of those around...really who does....

Not true, your ac temp varies greatly with outside air temp.

Just wait till you get to real summer..... If it is not cold inside.... then something is wrong.

I'm having the same issue. I assumed it was the drive belt as the ac belt was broken when I bought mine, but after replacing the accesory belts and recharging the system it is still VERY weak. I'm planning on taking it in tomorrow...if it's something simple I'll post to let you know.

Things you can check are blockage over the front of the condenser, condition of the fan clutch, make sure your heater valve isn't sticking open a bit... Adding refrigerant to a system without a set of gauges is the dumbest thing you can do...
