AC issue - stopped blowing cold

On the way home from work last night, my AC stopped blowing cold. Fan still worked like normal, but the air wasnt cold. The compressor was not turning on, so I went to the fuse box and found that the fuse was blown. Replaced it. Went into the truck and turned the ac on, light turned on and then a second later turned off, checked the fuse again and it was blown.

I don't know much about AC's. Whats the next part of diagnosing the problem. I dont anticipate being able to fix this without taking it to the dealer or some kind of professional, but I would like to get an idea of what has failed before I take it somewhere and they tell me the whole thing needs to be relplaced lol. :ybrick:

Sounds like something in the A/C electric is shorting out. Could be the a/c turn on switch itself, I remember the Taco's had a problem with the turn on switch itself but not sure on 4Rs, or one of the cycling switches on the a/c lines?? Without further info on what each switch ohms is I cant really help you out.

could also be the AC clutch shorting on itself. Replace the fuse and have someone start the runner and then turn on the AC while you are watching under the hood. If its the AC clutch you will hear it try to lock up and then the fuse blow. Also look and listen for other changes as the AC comes on then shuts down because of the blown fuse. Good luck

I have a similar issue with my 4th gen [05] except that cold a/c blows on the passenger side & rear vents, but not the drivers side vents.

I've checked the fuses, and none are blown.

The only incident that might have lead to my issue was when I plugged a friends phone charger into the center console power outlet (cig lighter) and his faulty wiring shorted-out & blew a fuse. I replaced that 15 fuse, which solved the problem of my center power outlet & subsequently the directional navigation in my rear-view mirror, but now this issue has arisen a week later.

Thoughts before taking it to the dealership? Otherwise everything else is fine.

The high temp today was 99F, so this couldn't have come at a worse time.

FIXED IT!

Added a can of R134a and the problem has been resolved. What initially threw me off was that 1 vent remained cold while the others were ambient (which at the moment is over 90F).

Picked-up one of the freon gauges w/pressure gauge from my local autoparts store (quality gauges are about $20), followed the instructions, and viola! I'm cooling again.

I'll be paying close attention to how long this lasts & the pressure from the LP valve to determine if I have a leak in the system. At which point I'll take it to the dealership for authorized service.

As for now, adding some R134a did the trick.
