Since we are all in a joking mood, here is a true story vaguely related to this topic:
A good friend of mines father-in-law (very nice guy) has this huge motor coach. He and his wife travel all over the country as they are retired.
He used to own a Ford dealership so he gets his vehicles dirt cheap and decided to buy a Ranger 4x4 to tow behind the RV.
He got one that was fully loaded with a 5 speed manual.
So off they go to South Carolina to visit relatives, brand new Ranger tied to the back.
They were some way into the trip when he noticed smoke coming from the back. He stopped and the first thing he saw when he went to the back was the Ranger sitting on the two back rims, tires completely gone.
What happened was when they left Denver he had left the tranny in 3rd gear so the motor was turning, dry.
It made it an amazing distance before the motor seized up and locked the rear wheels. Brand new truck with a ruined drivetrain.
The insurance company fought with him over some loophole that he was not actually driving the truck, but towing it but he eventually won and they ended up replacing the whole truck.
I still laugh about it because he is a really intelligent guy who just made one teeny tiny stupid mistake that had a really bad outcome.
Sort of like going down a hill in neutral. :cheers:
