Add aux input to oem radio.

I have an '03 SR5 with the standard radio/cd/cassette unit (not the JBL system), and I want to have the ability to use an aux imput to connect MP3 player to system. I am not interested in a high end sound system, (with my older ears, it would be a waste of money). I am satisfied with the existing speaker system. I just want to be able to play my MP3 player through the system. I am willing to replace the existing head unit, as long as it doesn't look clunky. I don't need the cassette player, but want to keep CD function. I have heard that the newer SR5's have aux imput capability. Would it be possible to swap in one of the newer units without rebuilding the entire console? Also, I would like to keep the console info display, if possible.

Dude gotta ya by a yr & I love my grom , was a simple install and I have all my oldies to listen to bad part my 16 old puts his shit on !! Only thing I've found to put in the center tray .

I have a GTA style adapter thing that I'd be willing to sell you. Gives you iphone charger and AUX cable and if you go through the charger you can play control through the radio. Shoot me a PM if interested

Why not use one of these? I have one and it works great. You also get hands free for your phone, if it has blue tooth.

It appears that this accessory connects to the vehicle radio using Blue Tooth tech, which unfortunately my '03 radio does not have.

I have this unit. It is an FM transmitter. You set what frequency you want to use and then tune your radio to it. It connects to your phone by blue tooth, if your phone has blue tooth. It also has a 1/8 input jack on it, so you can hook a non-blue tooth device to it (your mp3 player). It also has a usb port you can use to charge your phone. It works great for me. I got it because I wanted to be able to use the blue tooth for my phone and the 1/8 input for the dvd player for the kids. Plus it make your phone a hands free device.

Ok, I get it now. I looked a bit too quick at it and assumed it used blue tooth to connect to radio. I already have a blue tooth setup with my Garmin GPS, which gives me hands free phone use.

I had been looking at a newer Scion head unit swap, assuming that the MP3/aux connection was on the face plate of the unit. But, it appears instead that the aux connector on the newer models is in the center console, so I would still have to figure out how to mount an aux imput socket someplace, and wire it into the radio harness of the new head unit. Something I can probably figure out. I just have to decide how bad I 'want' it. I would much rather have a fixed aux socket, than a loose cable coming out of the console.

Buy mine!!!! It's exactly what you want. It gives you two RCA inputs which you can hook up a female aux port to. You can mount it in a switch blank, thats what I had.
